I finally got to compare my stage 2 to my stock dyno. Not sure how much temp effects the output but it was 50-60 on the day the stock was done and 80 or so today. The torque sure jumped. Well now I have a base line for the next mod.... hehehe.

When you say stage two are you talking just stock tune vs stage 2 tune? Or is it totally stock vs exhaust w/ tune?

Nice, dude. I had 263whp and 286 tq with similar spool to you on that dyno with stage 2 on a little cooler day. You are right there with my numbers. Congrats!! Enjoy the low end spool while you still have it..lol.

Stage 2 requires a turbo back exhaust. I have a V2 downpipe to a Cobb cat back and an Access Port.

I think I am going to try and keep that low end spool. I am really seriously thinking about a Methanol kit. I am also wondering if there is a way to keep the boost up at the end. It goes from 17 or 17.5 down to like 13. I need to look into that. I was told that is just the way it is with these turbos but I will still look into it.

    just curious

no up-pipe? And you're running an off the shelf Cobb map, not protuned correct?

Well, some of that is the fact that you don't have enough gas to support extra boost. A protune will be able to lean it out a bit up top to free up some injector.

Correct. No need for an up-pipe in the STi (no cat there). The map is a standard Cobb Stage 2 map.

Yea Russ, we need to talk again at some point. So does the boost map turn down the boost to make sure it does not lean out at high revs? I assume bigger injectors are the real way to fix this. Would I then get full boost all the way up with new larger injectors?

I am trying to figure out what the next upgrade should be. Sounds like pump and injectors might be the next needed upgrade maybe even before meth injection.

Well, that kinda dependson what your future mods are going to be. If you plan on runnig a larger turbo in the future, injectors and a pump will be a good mod for now. New injectors and a pump will also buy you some insurance since the sti runs so close to maxing out the injectors. I guess it depends on how close to the edge you want to run the car.

If I did do a larger turbo later it would not be much larger. I really like the low end torque that the STi puts out. I see the STi has a VF39. What is that in the TD series? I think a turbo is a ways down the road though. I would like to keep the car safe though. How much work is it for you to tune larger injectors?

Good numbers, man. How much did you pay for the run? Was it a dyno day that day? Did DB Performance upload your old "stock" run to show on this run? I was hoping to scrounge up some cash for another try on their dyno.

No dyno day. After Speedemon's tune I finally got my butt in gear to get a new baseline. It was $75. Little pricey but they are very close to me and I wanted a baseline before moving on to other mods. Yea they pulled up the data from the spring dyno day. That is the nice thing about that. They put you in the system so you can compare runs later. :)

dude, their dyno is crazy. My stage 3 WRX dynoed 190 HP there back in april. My afr's were through the roof (actually through the floor) under 9:1 afr. But i don't think that would drop 60+ HP on a car that has more done. (i had uppipe, intercooler, as well as UTEc, full exhuast, etc)

    Any other insight to this?

For stock my numbers seemed to be right on and for stage 2 my numbers are right in the area that they should be. I would like to have seen 260 or 270 but that is just me. Who wouldn't want to see higher numbers. As for afr, if it really was that low I bet you were way down in power. Someone else might have a better idea if you would be down my 60HP. Rasing it by a point or two seems to make a large difference on the STi.

Let me know if you make a run up there I have been wanting to go back and see what increase I may have picked up over my baseline run w/stage 1 and a catback(I'm taking baby steps). I don't know if there would be enough interest for an official "dyno day" but it may make the drive up a little more worth it if there was a few cars to run:dunno:

congrats on the new #s mlgez

I guess I'm lost on this...a Cobb stage 2 STi only hitting 251 at the wheel? Isn't that low? Or is it this particular dyno you were on?

it was on the heartbreaker. for reference stock WRX's dyno ~ 155hp on this one.

    sounds about right IMO

It does seem a little low but there are many factors that effect those numbers. Part of it was that it was very warm in the dyno area and the fan was not keeping my TMIC cold at all. He checked it part way through the pulls and said that it was almost too hot to touch. So that is some of it. Who knows for sure where the numbers come from. MOSTLY dynoing is only to get an ballpark idea of where your car is anyway. Gives you an idea if your mods are helping or not. :)

:emo: I guess that's why they call it a Heartbreaker. Wow

Man, I plan to dyno my car within the next couple months before an after installing a VF34, injectors, and pump (cobb stage 2.5?) But I want to at least feel good about the numbers...probably steer clear of that dyno.

My stage 2 sti made a little more power than Matt's #'s yesterday but I think the weather may have something to do with it(the sc00b day there was actually kind of a cooler spring day). Even with the weather difference I only had 12 more hp at the wheels and torque was almost the same.

I guess i wouldn't steer clear of the syno cuz it reads low. I would rather have a car the puts out 250whp on a low reading dyno and be able to hold its own, then have a 300whp car that is slower than the 250whp car. You just need to remeber that it is just a number. it is all calculations that give you that number. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that you want to use the same dyno when you are seeing how much of a improvement a certain mod makes. i personally would use the dyno that is closest to me and use that for the baseline pulls and such.

So if your getting 250 at the wheels, what do you suppose the crank is getting? How do you test for that?

If that is true then the numbers are dead on. They say stage 2 is 350. Well onto the next mods. Bring on the meth and a tune.... hehehe. This should really spool fast on a stock turbo. :naughty:

I am very interested in getting a little dyno day going but I really don't know if I can afford it right now. I'm still paying out my butt for the mortgage and no one's really biting at my house that I'm selling. :( If you guys plan one, I may make a decision to run at the last minute... depending on my finances.
