whats the safest boost one should be running on a stage 2 map for an 06 sti. my tables are showing a current target boost of 17.00
i'm tired... searching will have to wait till tomorrow. staring at tables all night trying to figure stuff out on the new toys
I know, that doesnt make it an STi. I was a joke but thanks for clearing that up Mr. Obvious.
Soooo captain topic change 17.5 boost is best for stock turbo? I don't want to go Pshhhhhhing my luck and get a boom noise. seriously now... best boost without hitting the danger zone. I'll log my stuff and post the log from 2 - redline.
Mr. Redymix is correct. Since I've installed "STi" decals on my FXT, I've been calling an STi, also. lol
Seriously, there are so many factors going in to this, it makes the question half worthless. Answer: There is no XX PSI is perfectly safe. There are a lot more things going on with an aftermarket (or the stock for that matter) tune then boost.
Most people 17.5psi....Even on the COBB Stage II Sheets shows they tested at 17.5psi so its your risk if you want to go beyond what they tried.
The best amount of boost to run on a stg2 car (wrx or sti) or any car for that matter, is the most boost you can effeciently run and still have enough gas to support the air flow. there is no magical number that works for everyone. Since I have been tuning the wrx since a tunable em has been out, I have done many stg2 cars that will run 2-3psi different. So cars just have better injectors that will flow more, so you can run a bit more boost. Some motors flow a bit better. Way to many variables to say run "X" boost. Russ
You should probably have an EGT gauge if you want to go above 17.5 psi on pump gas. I ran like 21 peak boost through my td04 on E85. Tom ran something like 19 on the stock turbo and pump gas when he had a 2.0l car. You just have to watch your injector duty cycle numbers 'cause you can't run that kind of boost much past 4000 rpm with stock injectors.
Looking at my dyno graphs 17 looks to be in the ballpark... http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16952
