ok, my buddies and cousins are going paintballin' tomorrow. i would like to join but i have no gear since i havn't paintballed my life. is there a good starter gun? i've heard the tippman 98 custom is a good choice. lmk if anyone has anything for sale since i already searched, readymix sold his on ebay, or any comments on where to buy guns and equitment. thx choung
tippmann is a good gun i have a custom pro, which is virtually the same as a 98 custom. depending on where you live you could go to adventure zone in burnsville, or ****s sporting goods would be another good one. i have an electronic trigger on mine which is nice but i guess it depends on how much you play. the filter edited my post, but its the sporting goods store over by ridgedale
EBAY is your friend.... I have a Tippmann A5 for my main gun but have added 3 tippmann 98s to the collection, 2 are customs, 1 is a standard 98 with some nice little mods... each gun cost me less then $100 shipped off ebay... (except the A5 which ran about $130) I painted my A5 and not sure if I have any pics of all the gear together... View attachment 6910 View attachment 6911 View attachment 6912
my wife would say YES... me NO.... ebay is your friend.. patience is all it takes... or go buy a custom for $180 with mask etc in the package...
Don't blow a bunch of money if you've never played before. I played for seven years with rental equipment before I decided to buy my own marker. Go and play first and see if you like it. Then go shopping. And your first purchase should be a decent mask. Rental masks are oogy and slimy from all the fat, sweaty blokes that have been using them for years before you. CO2 doesn't like cold weather. It's harder for it to turn to gas, and markers don't run on liquid CO2. My Automag RT only runs on compressed air, which is better in the cold. However, rather than worry about your choice of cold weather propellant, I'd be more concerned about those .68 caliber ice cubes you're slinging at one another. I played exactly one time when there was snow on the ground. Frozen paintballs are no fun. Stuart.
i have played many times out in the cold, you just need to keep the paint in the warm before you play, works best if you can keep it in your car after you drive to the field too if its still warm. just a thought on cold playing. Anywho, it all depends on what you want out of it... I have been playing for a long time as well and you can ask Nathan, my gear is far from starter gear trick is you need to decide what you want out of it, if you want something fast and easy to shoot, pick up an older spyder used somewhere (i personally would try to find an AMG Classic) if you just want something you can beat down on, toss in the closet and play with next week, go with the Tippmann 98 custom. Another precaution you can take if you do want to keep playing in the winter too is getting an expansion chamber for the gun you purchase, help cut back on the amount of liquid CO2 entering the gun messing with the velocities.
just played yesterday. it got so warm i just wore a long sleve camo tee shirt. holy crap i have 32 welts.... anyway, just rent the field guns for a few times, then you'll get an idea of how you play. i like to run and gun, you might like to camp and snipe, that makes a big diffrence in the marker you build. also compressed air FTW!~!!!!!! splat tag in hudson has a killer setup, keith is the best ref there too, request him if you can. ask him to put you on iron man center flag......
go with an ion with compressed air and you'll be happy. They are crazy fast guns and coming from someone that gets to work and shot them all the time, its the one to go with.
haha, I mean shoot them. BTW don't get a spyder, they are the VW of paintball guns, 2452364 parts and none of them work right.
