Hey So on my way back from work today, something started making a clicking noise every time I'd turn the wheel to the right and this makes me think that one of my axles is going bad (again). The clicking was continuous throughout the entire turn. But then it started doing it again on 94 only this time the clicking was intermittent (it'd click every 10, 15, or 30 sec) and only once. Well I got to minneapolis and still was thinking my axle crapped out, when i stopped at a red light and started accelerating from a stop, from 0 to about 10 or 15 mph, the steering wheel would jerk pretty hard to the left. :ugh: I pulled over to check it out but couldn't see anything cuz the sun already went down (this winter no daylight before or after work really sucks). The wheels were bolted on tight though. Well I made it home the four extra blocks going pretty slow and hit every stoplight and experienced the same jerking in the wheel every time. So i guess my question is: what the hell? Could this be an axle issue or a deeper/worse problem like a differential? I's a 1.8 94 Impreza L FWD Any input would be great. Chris
I have seen wheel bearings make the clicking noise before. Have also seen sticking brake pads make the noise, as well as aftermarket axle shafts. There are lots of possibilities...
Sounds exactly like an axle that bombed on my old Honda. The wheel would jerk violently to the right (right axle) because the joints were binding. Sometimes it would chirp. At the time I was quite pissed, but now I look back and think it was a kind of cute noise.
