Yo, well I am finally getting the motivation to install my old stereo system in the car. My girlfriend has a Delphi roady XM unit and man, do the stock speakers sound like ass(which will be replaced soon enough)!

But for now, the HU needs to go. So, what do I need to install my head unit? So far I have a legacy pocket and the wiring harness. I'm pretty sure this is all I need.

But, I figure I may as well ask others who have prolly installed there own system to be sure. That way I don't pull everything apart only to put it back in due to a lack of a part. I don't need a outside piece to cover up any of the inerds of the dash or anything like that do I? The HU and pocket will be enough, correct?

I have a single din Alpine 9815 and a MY02 WRX to be clear on things.

Ha, I have the single din 9813, you have all you need, when you take the stock stereo out, you need to take the 2 plates off the side of the stock stereo to mount the deck in the car, Stupid me I scratched my head for a good 5 minutes until I figured that out. I also mounted mine on the bottom, so I can change cds with a drink in the drink holder.

The biggest suprises, after you eq out most of the bass atleast the low bass, the speakers sound pretty damn good (not aftermarket good), I think, amazing how bad the stock deck is. I also added a sub at the same time, so cutting the bass off the speakers didn't hurt the sound quality.

I'm in no hurry to change out the stock speakers now.

Cool thanks. Thats a good idea putting the HU on the bottom for CD access while having drinks in the cup holder.

Hopefully the stock speakers will sound a bit better with the new HU. But I've got new components in the mail regardless.

    what head unit?
sometimes it's good to get a harness that is plug to plug set up for your car.
if you dont plan on doing an amp, then it's prety simple.
pop one clip in, pop the other, attach the antenne and you are golden.

if you have issues with the face not fitting, i do have some spare din trim pieces somewhere in my garage. hollar if you need them.

I'd suggest making a ghost-face too. Real easy and fits pretty flush (with trimming the face) thanks to the way the trim in setup. Also, when you do the speakers, if you cut out and reuse the stock harness on the speaker it makes the install really really easy.

I'm not quite sure what you mean? A plug to plug setup for for my car?

I bought the HU wiring harness that is made for the WRX's made by Metra. I think that is plug for plug?? Or are you talking about the speaker wiring plugs?

HU is a Alpine 9815 and I will be amping the components.

I think he might mean a brand specific harness. Like a Subaru to alpine harness (harness on both ends). I dont think they have many like this for Subaru so you'd have to solder the metra harness to the Alpine harness.
