its getting to be that time to do some matinence and I currently have the stock WRX dirty filter in my air box, just curious if spending $12 vs $65 on the STi filter is worth it?

currently my car runs a a 13.7, would I see as much as a, 13.6 out of it? or am I just dreaming.

you are dreaming. it's just an air filter. I would recommend saving some cash and getting a Blitz SUS panel filter off ebay. I had one for hte longest time. Cleanable, doesn't require that damned K&N oil, and it flows better than stock. I found it for 40 bucks.

i just got a AMSOil Nano Filter.
it's supposed to flow really well and never need oil. you just blow it off with an air gun and your good to go.
it was like, $36 from an AMSOil dealer friend of mine.

I have an amsoil air filter in my car as well. I do not have one of the new ones, mine requires cleaning and oiling every so often. But I like it, deffinetly a difference from the stock one.

Reason I ask is that I have dynoed several cars and they have picked up anywhere from 3whp to 8 whp from taking the filter off. Which means that the stock filter is a restriction, and a different filter would yeild better flow.

You surely are not mystified to a point that you are making this connection.

No way. I refuse to believe it.

Refuse to belive the power gains? Yes, EVERY car that I dynoed gained power. From all motor hondas, to boosted caviliers and turbocharged neons. 8 WHP was from a stock 01 gsr, but mostly 5whp was very common from removing the filter.

    DO NOT QUESTION THIS TACTIC.

There are no compromises to this venue of POWER. Air Filters are optional. POWER IS ESSENTIAL.

FWIW: My VatoZone filter has done me quite well.

if your taking the filter out, why not just go one step further and take the whole airbox/piping out too? that's gotta be worth, 3-4 HP.

oooo!! pull the exhaust off too. pipes are totally restrictive! i bet that's worth 6 hp right there!

and why are we all worried about this!?! You've got the best mod ever for a subaru, a manual boost controler!! if you wanna go faster, just turn that little go-fast knob some more!

after all this, you should totaly be able to run 9s. because everyone knows subarus are the ultimate drag cars!!!

    Listen here cockbag

I was trying to say that some air filters are more restrictive and different air filters can allow more airflow therefore a bit more power. I asked a simple question captin jerkoff, if a STi air filter was any better.

and I have a mbc? sorry sir, no mbc on my car

Please, step off your stool and stop trying to act like you know somthing...you dont know hot carl kid.

    Wow, no kidding, wtf?

Q: Is the STi filter better than stock?

A: Yes, and so is Blitz/ITG/Perrin

Although, I will admit, you might have brought it on by saying the bit about the dyno and no filter. But not the amount you recieved. Seriously, take it easy guys.

    LMAO...
Relax. This stuff happens ocasionally when i get REALLY bored. and Compostion class is REALLY BORING.

Yes, i got your air filter argument. and i did chip in at the top with meaningful opinion. and your question was both reasonable and pertinat
But when you go and say something stupid like:
You might as well just climb in to a flame retardant suit with a cool margarita. because the **** has just hit the fan. of course removing an air filter will give you more horsepower. it's a restriction. any restriction decreases horsepower. but it's a restriction any sane person with a street car lives with. no air filter is going to equal 0 restriction and still function efectively enough to protect your engine from dirt ant debris.

Sorry about the MBC coment, i mistook you from some other wanker who thinks thats the awnser to all his horsepower problems. No harm, no foul.

But i do stand by my subaru drag car thing. Don't. if you wanna go fast in a straight line, get a mustang. they've allready been proven as the cheapest/fastest thing for drag racing. but they handle like ass. thats why i bought a subaru. because they TURN well and accelerate pretty good too.

P.S. i love the internet. the first thing typed is "listen here cockbag"
Why must you insult my scrotum? it has done nothing to you!
