Why aftermarket cam gears aren't really used?
good cams for 35r (rev limit @ 7500-8000?)?
Opinion on the flow of the sti heads? (i've seen many used ver7 sti spec c heads).

I was looking at different companies and they seem to offer only brand new heads and not a core charge or a service where you send in your heads. I was wondering why??

Axis is the only company I've seen that offers a valvetrain package and options of cams + valve, which you can send in your heads and they can do the port + lash adjustment.

Is there any good local shops that can do porting and lash adjustment? Or anyone the board?
I heard lots of horror stories with the lash adjustment and correct clearance for cams.

Any help in direction will be appreciated.

If you are a DIY'er you can do the lash yourself. As far as cam gears are concerned, your timing is handled by the ECU using timing on the spark. Cam gears are not required to adjust timing. Good cams for the 35R depends entirely on what you want to achieve with the 35R. I'm using 272 cams with mine and power delivery is laggy but hard hitting when it does hit.

Axis is a great place to look to for getting head work done in terms of polish and port. And if you want help assembling, I can check your lash for you.

Cam gears are for advancing/retarding CAM timing, much like how AVCS works but only manually.

I was thinking 264 because you didn't want to push your powerband to high and get a lower cam profile due to the rev limit of the 2.5.

not sure but does the 04 sti have avcs on both intake and exhuast side?

How about the sti drivetrain? How strong is the 6 speed TCase, rear diff (its mechanical right?) Can it handle 400hp all day with the occasional 500+ on race? I hope they weren't dumb like mitsubishi and try to fit 6 gears in the 5 speed case.

Hey Fuji its Seng/DJ nhia's friend

I have a 2.5L. No the drivetrain is plenty strong enough to make 500whp. Ask Dream. He's been doing it for nearly a year now. THe 6 speed case is different than the 5speed, but it is the gears that are the weakpoint...but not so much with the STI tranny. Unless you talk to tux121, but he doesn't count because he drives like a lobotomized gorilla with a swollen right arm and a broken left leg. And he would likely have trouble even explaining his problems to you anyway since he types his messages violently on the keyboard using his face.

But anyway. I'm running the 272's on WRX heads on the 2.5L turbo block with forged pistons. Your stock pistons will have trouble with the 35R I would imagine. That is your weakpoint there. Sure, my powerband is virtually non-existant before 4k, but from then on it goes like a mad ape. 264 cams aren't going to drasticly change that really. And odds are, you'd be able to make 500whp (on the dyno at RS, not LSE) with just the stock port job and cams that are already in the STi.

maybe some competition for dream, readymix and i? nice. theres drp racing, kelford, cosworth, crower, ect places that you can get after market cams from. as far as porting goes i am still working on that myself. ray says that andrew tec does porting or knows some one. and from there bikerboy can put it together and get you ready to run them. he is the man locally here that would be the only one i would recommend to do any motor work.

heads been ported by arfab just need valvetrain and cams but it would need a retune so not sure on how long it will take just trying to gather up some ideas. I thought about axis since it was the closest place with good reputation.
    thanks
