http://jalopnik.com/5260860/subaru-sti-hits-two-trees-at-speed-flips-twice-everyone-survives Wow. I'm surprised they credit the harnesses/harness bar as contributing in the fact everyone survived. I've heard of bad things happening with harnesses in cars without cages. Also, now that I look at it - maybe he shouldn't be running on snow tires. That might have had something to do with it.
The harness bar had precisely squat to do with them walking away, especially if they're only running a 4 point harness. If anything, the rear seat passengers should count themselves lucky they didn't leave their teeth in it, and the front seat people are lucky they didn't decapitate themselves on the windshield or have to be pried out of the footwells. The safety cage wasn't really impinged on, although the roof did cave in the forward middle (least reinforced + farthest point from the A pillars) and it looks like the passenger side A pillar bent a little bit. There's no side damage to the doors, and the center roof (B) pillar didn't buckle. All the damage was concentrated on the front and rear crumple zones and roof.
there goes my insurance rates.... *dumb asses... sure there was a deer involved.. the story is a tell tale about what I bet really happened... drinking and driving
Seats, cf fenders, shift knob, scoop and other interior bits all look ok. hood needs some work, I dont know if that big crack is repairable or not. Looks like a big scrap of metal now. We all say shoulda hit the deer, but you cant fight reflexces in that situation that happens so fast, unless you have the driveing experience like some people on here, or countless hours of training. I'm wondering what this guys driving backround is.
I think its just natural to swerve when something like this happens, its easy to post "should have swerved". Good thing everybody is ok.
And because they swerved and didn't hit the deer it is likely that the driver won't see a dime from insurance. For some reason insurance companies don't like to give out claims when a person swerves to avoid something.
No, it'll just go from being covered by comprehensive to collision. One will raise your rates and usually carries a deductable, and one usually doesn't have a deductable and won't raise your rates.
Because it looks cool yo! ...Or they would enjoy being pried out of the footwells in a serious accident.
Well the racing seats themselves are pretty durable, but they'll be dead in it when the roof caves in and their harness doesn't allow them their bodies to move making their head and spine act as a new B-post.
I went for the the deer on the scenic drive to Two Harbors. Was doing about a hundie. Swerving would have had knarley reprocussions.
Was hoping to see this posted here, nice that the car held up so well. But total WTF moment when I saw the snow tires... :ugh:
No, because then they would have all been beaten sensless by the bars. Helmets and harnesses and HANS devices are required in roll cages for a reason.
Yeah, you can only pad those bars so much. And technically wearing helmets is not allowed in cars on public roads as it obstructs your peripheral vision. I'm guessing bikes get a pass on that for the whole saving your life thing.
