I just orderd STi Pink wagon springs and an 18mm RSB for my 9-2x. Now I need to figure out where to get it installed. Before you tell me how easy it is--my box and all tools are in Indiana, I don't have ramps, don't have a floor jack here, don't have a garage and my landlord will kick me out if I do this in the parking lot. ;) So pretty much I am going to have to pay someone.

Any suggestions on a REPUTABLE shop--fair prices would be nice as well

    Thanks!

We're good guys here, I'd let you do it in my parents garage, if I was in the cities 8)

otherwise, I bet wrxboy2003 would do it at his meineke shop, he does great work, and would probably give you a good deal

we also get a deal on laber at BP morries....

Yup, lots of people here that can help you...not me due to schedule and seasonal trips. But if you can wait till spring. I know Fong still needs his turbo installed...he is first on the list.

Yikes! $300 quote so far. Hadn't expected anything over $200. Guess I should have called around before ordering these. Oops.

OK you need to understand, it is labor intensive. Each strut needs to be removed, disassembled, reassembled, reinstalled in the car. Plus I personally guarentee the work will be done properly. I have done this install for may of the listers here so far.

Plus I have to pay the shop owner for use of the site.

I also offer pick-up and delivery unless you live in egypt

Yes I understand it is labor intensive. I didn't think it would be over a three hour job. At that rate it would cost $100 hour in labor. I will likely still be contacting you. Just caught me off guard--thats all.

    Well strike the above!

I just called BP Morries and they said it's a 5hr job billed out at $95.85/hr. plus alignment.

Wow! Not at all what I expected.

Anyone want to let me hang out in their garage, lend a hand, eat pizza and drink your choice of beverage on me?!?!

    LOL!

    Proves what I know.

Yes it really is a pain in the rear to do. You really need a lift and air tools to get the job done. Some of the bolts require special tools to get to. I would advise against DYI on this type of job for your first time. If you do do it yourself expect it to take 1.5 hours per strut.

And just to clarify for the others reading this post my quote to him was 300.00 to do the spring swap as well as replace the RSB and installing WRX roof racks as long as they were not something that required me to take apart the car a bunch.

yeah, I checked a few places and they all quoted anywhere from $500 - $700, so Matt seemed like a bargain. $100/hr is not unreasonable to make sure it is done right. Plus the education was worth it; next time I can handle it myself.

    [mild hijack]
Is it different than installing coilovers on a '96 imp L? cause I did that on martins car (well, my impact wasn't strong enough to get the rear struts off...), and it wasn't too hard

Yes, chux, it is different than coilovers in that with a strut swap, you must remove the springs from the original struts and put them into the new ones...

The springs must be compressed, then you must disassemble the old strut and the new strut, put the spring into the new strut, and then reassemble the strut then uncompress the spring. It takes time.

I know it took me all of 3 hours to remove the suspension from my car and install the coilovers AND the EDFC stuff with two people helping (me finish off the beer in the fridge).

yea....that's what we did...or am I missing something. We took off the stock springs, and added the coilovers to the stock struts, then put them back on. I bet we got both the fronts done in less than an hour

Ok now I am really confused. I am NOT replacing the struts. All I am doing is putting STI springs on with my stock struts. I am not doing the cut the factory strut, put in Koni insert deal.

BikerBoy is going to do the springs for me, throw on a rear diff protector, likely put put on WRX roof rails (so if you want roof rail deletes from a Saab 9-2x they will be for sale soon), and a 20mm RSB.

I have to admit--out of all of the car "clubs" and owner's boards I have been on this has to be one of the most helpful.

zcar.com--very technicall and helpful, people seemed a little hillbilly and uneducated

saabnet.com--great resource for when I used to have my 9-3, the 9-2x board has little to no activity--overal very bright--kind of pretentious though

saab92x.com--great resource (along with NASIOC) but everyone seems to be in CAL or TX or the east coast where tuner shops are a dime a dozen

This board is great because people are local--I am going to the even in ORR that Rich is putting on (ice racing)--you guys just seem really outgoing and quick to help EVEN though I have a Saab badge on my car! ;)

That was all warm and mushy.

    Get back to work

    Chris
