Do any of you STI guys have aftermarket radiators? I was looking at the Koyos...they seem to be the most reasonably priced. Is it worth the extra money to get the Greddy or one of the other more expensive ones? Fluidyne comes up as well. I'm also finding 2 different model numbers that come up depending on the site...KOY2704 and KOY2450....just wondering if anyone knows which one is correct. Oakos has the 2704 for 399 shipped right now. Thanks, guys! Pete http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=KOY2704
I bough two from Ebay both were from the same source. Dream had suggested this vendor to me. 1. $350 2. $375 shipped Look for those that have it listed with make an offer. I guess you should yourself if 30-40% more cooling is enough for your applicaiton. Good luck!
Latley ive been searching around nasioc about this, alot of big tuners would recommend an oil cooler over a radiator, I was shocked. They claim your car is less pron to det and knock with the oil cooler compared to the radiator. Not saying an upgraded radiator would be a waste, but after reading all that ill be getting a oil cooler before I get a radiator.
i didnt think it was an option of one or the other, i thought they are just saying that adding an oil cooler along WITH the radiator is a good idea. am i confused?
You can have both, I was just saying getting an oil cooler would be a better idea before getting a radiator, from what ive been reading...
I had both, but not together at once...The Oil cooler honestly didn't do much to my EGT, but when I took that off and installed the koyo Radiator, instantly I noticed a drop of 200 degrees compared to my normal temp. So I'd recommend the Radiator over the Oil cooler, but never hurts to have both. Just watch out when you install the radiator hose back because it is tight and ends up very close to the cooling fans and can get torn up and cause a nasty coolant leak...Just had that happen to a customers STi in service. Literally the radiator is 2x the size. So there is very little space to work with. And make sure you tighten the pet-cock before you start your engine...Koyo Radiators doesn't come tightened.
So your exhaust gas temp dropped 200 degrees by installing a new radiator?? I don't get it, those 2 have very very little to do with each other. I don't think there is any way a radiatior will throw your tune off that much. Russ
200 degrees might be a stretch, but it might be possible for a higher capacity radiator to shed heat from the combustion chamber enough to lower the EGTs...but I don't know about 200 degrees worth. But it might be enough to give you a little better det protection. An oil cooler is also a good idea. The integrity of your oil is key to a happy engine. An oil cooler will keep your oil temps down which makes your oil more effective. Both are good purchases.
hey thanks guys. I was hoping someone would post on here. I'm actually going to look into doing both. I'm going to do some research and we'll see about the oil cooler also.
For oil cooler....I found a couple different ones. ProcessWest from RallySportDirect for 450 and the best price I found on the Greddy was 593 from Istoreparts.com....expensive little beeotches.
