#2 Part out the car and get something else Pros-probably make the most money Cons- lose my beloved car =(
#3 Aftermarket gearset PPG/PAR/KAAZ Pros-quick turnaround time, get to keep my car Cons- cost more that STi swap!!!!

Spur of the moment cuz a good deal came up. And it was the quickest way to get it back up, even though it wasn't very quick

My motor had some major issues a few months back, and I decided to invest in a build. It is expensive, time consuming, and tough work (which is highly appreciated). But I decided that the car had a lot of sentimental value, and that the investment into an upgraded motor would keep my specific car, as well as enhance it and not put me in the situation of moving on, and/or end up driving most likely a less "fun" car. If you can financially do it, and the car means a lot to you, why not? It's a fun learning process, and makes your car that much more unique.

I know that my situation didn't call for a tranny, but that was just my take on it when it came time for a very major decision/repair. Best of luck to you in deciding! There are a lot of very great people here that have many viewpoints, and knowledge to share and help.

I will have the same problem as you in a couple of years. Its either swap a sti trans in or build a 5 speed.

    Ben/xluben please stand up.

Money matters, as does simplicity. In all matters, I prefer to KISS. YMMV, be safe out there comrades.

OP - do you have any power numbers you can share?

6 speed wakes the engine up pretty good, and I do have a jdm 6 speed for sale. Its a lot quicker swap than you think. The jdm 6speed doesn't require switching out the front axles like the US Sti 6 speed. So you won't need to switch out hubs. Less parts to replace, less parts to buy, less money.

I wouldn't say that either a 6 speed or a built 5 speed is necessarily going to be "fast". And they'll both be pretty expensive. It comes down to either waiting for a good deal used (or getting lucky and finding one right away, but I wouldn't count on that), or just buying something new, and paying a lot more for it. Even going new, it is still a long lead time on built trannies. It really just depends on how much you want to keep your car.

BTW, what does "locked up" mean. That sounds like it could be a shift fork or something like that. If that's the case, it's probably a minimal replacement cost, but a decent amount of money if you're not doing the labor yourself. And then you're still left with a stock 5 speed that will probably just break eventually...

This is likely going to be the fastest and easiest. Possibly the cheapest too.
