Hi guys, I just wanted to post up in case anyone in the area sees this car. It is a Garnet Red Pearl 2006 OBXT that was stolen out of my driveway sometime early this morning. This car is very unique looking and should be easily identifiable as I have never seen another quite like it. Unique only to this car are black door handles and moldings, silver pinstipe, Rally America window banner across the back (though easily removable), Rally Armor mudflaps (not quite as easily removable), and a rather large ham radio antenna on the roof rack (also not exactly easily removable). Less noticeable would be the chrome trim on the tailgate has been vinyled black as well as the chrome on the front fascia. The windows are also tinted darker than stock. We have only had this car 2 months so also look for WI temp plates, though I imagine any thief would remove those right away. Unfortunately, being so new, I barely have any pictures of the car, but these should suffice. If anyone sees this car, or knows anything about it, please call the police and report it. Thanks!
i'm assuming that car isnt easy to steal. why would someone go through the effort to steal it? not reeeally a joyride car, at all.
Ya, we're really confused honestly. The whole thing is just a little too weird. We have 7 cars at the house, including my WRX and Mazdaspeed Protege, the roommate's Evo, and the other roommate's Mazdaspeed6. It just seems so illogical that if someone is going to go through the trouble of stealing one of our cars, that they'd take the Outback and not one of the other cars. They all have immobilizers, so it's not like it was that much easier to steal or anything. And I just can't imagine there's a huge underground market for stock Outback parts lol. We're still hoping that maybe it just rolled into the street and got towed to the impound lot, but the cops had no reports of it
They probably just wanted the motor. I am glad most people dont know how similar these & LGT's are to the sti's motors.
The car is back! We got a call around 8pm last night that the cops found it undamaged about a mile away on a side street. It had keys in it, and we're pretty sure there's only about 5 more miles on the odo. Some ham radio equipment was stolen, but nothing appears to have been ruined or damaged (amazingly). So theory is this: We saw a light on in the garage late the other night, figured it was a squirrel (they go in there and eat the bird seed all the time), roommate did not investigate. It probably wasn't a squirrel.:eek4: It was probably the thief (sounds like idiot kids) checking stuff out in our garage. We're guessing this third set of keys must've been in the glovebox cause we've never seen it before; the saleman only gave us the two sets of keys so I'd guess they must've tossed 'em in the glovebox along with the paperwork and owners manual and forgot to mention it. It's unclear if the keys were taken at that point or not, but I'm guessing they were. Looks like the thief came back a few nights later, unlocked the car and just drove off with it to a quieter street so they could steal the radio stuff without being seen. The thought of stealing an entire car just to get some radio equipment is beyond asinine to me, but hey, at least they didn't drive it into a tree or start it on fire or something. Somewhat humorously, it appears they only took the control unit for the radio and the power inverter, completely forgetting about the head unit, so the stuff they stole is of no use anyway. Also, in the event they try to pawn it or sell it at the radio shop, anyone will know it's dirty and there's a very strong possibility they'll be charged with grand theft auto, not just possession of stolen equipment. Here's hoping... Thanks for the well wishes guys, I think your positive energy definitely helped!
Boredom in kids is a dangerous mix. Kids have no social conscience, so they have no concept of how anything they do relates to others in any way. Property destruction, theft, etc. are quite comment and done for no particular reason other than to waste time. This is a big reason why parents need to be involved in their kids lives. I know what happens when they don't. Kids just find things to do, and most are not constructive. They're not trying to do damage, be mean, or have a grudge. It's just boredom and an act that fills that time.
Wow, thats a crazy tun in events. I thought for sure the bay would be empty and youd find it in an alley in st. paul.
Good. Ham radio equipment can be replaced. Though it's strange that you didn't go through the glove box when you got the car. I did, but that's me. Not everyone is like me, I guess. You need to install something real loud on it so that you'll know when it's starting up Did you change the locks/put locks on your garage? I would also talk to AWDimprezaL about getting new locks for your car.
OP, glad to hear car was recovered with little harm. but honestly, I just can't wrap my head around the story. and this...
The entire thing is really just beyond comprehension...it's all just very very strange. The cops even thought it was just a prank after a while, especially when they found the car so near the house (we didn't rule it out, but honestly couldn't think of anyone we know that would think this is a good prank). As far as the glovebox contents...it's the SO's car, not mine (though I get to drive it now and then). I have a complete mental inventory of everything in my own cars. The only time I've seen the Outback glovebox was at rally and it was full of a tangle of wires, chargers, and papers. I'm sure he's now learned to keep the glovebox locked no matter what's in there lol.
