I'll pass. The amount of gasoline required to idle my car and move it a couple inches for each shot would be devastating. Stop motion works better for people/figurines.
If you are going to do stop animation subarus, you are better off making it with matchbox cars or something. Seriously, stop motion isn't that cool on large scale stuff.
From someone with a production background I would say that using sweet models is a better avenue to take. Then you can use more controlled environments and situations that are more outlandish. Think of a sweet STI driving into a bathtub with your girlfriend (or any girl for that matter)
Fyi In addition, for a five min film you will be looking at approx 7200 shots (@ 24 frames per second) I think these two guys must have been film students and or unemployed in order to have that much time on there hands.
Yes, this. Which is why I said I wont be donating my car for the cause. If I were you, I'd go pick up some of those F&F ricer models at that store in MOA and practice a bit. It's hard to gauge point to point distance to achieve the illusion of speed and proper distance unless you practice. I messed around with it in HS a bit, and you WILL have to take multiple takes on each scene to get the proper frame to frame distance and spacing to give the look of the velocity of the car that you want to achieve. If you figure a scene that takes 3 seconds of movie time requires 60 frames, you can see how this could take alot of time especially if you don't get the proper illusionary velocity down on the first try. BTW, to clarify, lets say you want the cars to appear to be doing 60mph, if you do a take, moving the cars one inch at a time, with a camera distance of 5 feet, it may not appear to be going 50...it could be too fast, or too slow. So you need to adjust the distance traveled for each frame to give the illusion of the speed you want. This is another reason why I wont use my car for this.
I was a bit high on my calculations on that one. It is probably about half of that amount but still insainly high and yes figuring out the distance and speed afor the right appearance ratio can be a algerbraic nightmare or a lot of shots in the dark. I am not trying to be a naysayer. I would love for someone to do this and make me eat crow. I am all about supporting someone in endeavors of any creative kind. However, start with something less ambitious so you don’t crush you ideals and moral. Set reasonable goals.
Bielke, you may want to dumb it down for the lesser minds here. Next time when you make a funny, be sure to add 30 hard returns and then spell out the joke for everyone else to understand. BTW, i got your funny on that one. Well played.
And here's your explaination as to why Bielke is t3h funnAy: STI = Sexually Transmitted Infection for everyone that doesn't own a Subaru or pay attention to performance car trends.
I think it would be very cool. But, there is no need to do stop motion at 24 FPS. That would be a very fluid (read live-action) stop-motion. And you could make it even more stoppy (if that's a word) and it would still get the point across. It would be interesting and definitely fun, but I would like a storyboard before I said yes or no. haha Also an amazing tripod and a digicam with a HUGE card would be necessities.
Finally read more. Probably not gonna happen with the stop motion thing. haha "Thanks for all the super nice comments! And since some questions keeps coming up, i thought I'd answer them. 1. The video took two months to film and edit." also: "6. The camera we used was a Canon GL1 with both digital stills being taken, and footage being shot." Everyone cheats sometimes. haha
