I'm just wondering who all stores their cars for the winter.....if so do you store it yourself or pay for storage space? If you do store how much do you pay a month.....if you dont how much would you think is a good price to store (temp controlled of course)

Why do you need it to be climate controled? Just wondering is all.

As long as its a good place(no furry creatures hiding) I don't think temp control is really needed. If it was some classic car worth 100k, sure. I stored my 240, and now my WRX, at my moms in their extra detached garage. It is really well insulated and never really dropped below 25 degrees.

One other thing to consider when storing your car, some places that do "mass" storage will not allow you to have access/remove your car while it is in storage. For security of other cars, and cause they would have to move a bunch of cars to get yours out.

Colder may be better, as it slows down the oxidation.

Just a general question guys, I have a heated garage. Anyone pay places to store their cars?

I have stored my boat at indoor storage places and they charge by the foot. I believe $10.00 a foot was what I paid for the entire winter.

Yep, I store it in my garage. I've got 3 garage bays, I'm not going to pay for another one. And yeah, why does it need to be climate controlled?

I stored my miatas, when I had them. Relatives had extra space, fortunately.

I know a guy who stores his beetle convertible on the fairgrounds. Apparently the price is very reasonable.

I know some people that store their cars at the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington. I'll ask and see how much they charge.

Mine just stays in the garage. To save space I put it on dollies and shove it right up to the wall. I've got a very average 3-car garage but doing this helped free up enough space to park the bike next to the sti plus the Forester and crew cab truck all in there at once.

    Yeah, it's pretty slick.

And as much as an empty garage would be nice, it's kinda nice having the car stored at home.

I store my car at the house in the 3rd bay. it's a tight fit in what they call a third stall and it's not climate controlled. I do toss a well fitting dust cover on it though. I always wash/wax along with sta-bil in the tank before putting it away. I also fill up the tires real good to avoid flat spots. I've debated putting in on jack stands all winter but haven't yet. I should pull the battery but usually get lazy and despite it being an original battery from '04 it always starts the car right up come spring on the first turnover. I attribute the long life of the battery to it being in the trunk and away from the heat. I paid 300 for motorcycle storage a while back but that included winterizing it. I wouldn't pay to much for storage. I'd be most worried about rodents if the place isn't nice.

Is there anything special that needs to be done when storing my car on E? I plan on starting it every week.

Starting every week is bad. It builds moister and the car isn't hot enough to burn it off. Battery tend the battery and just leave it alone. The less gas, the better.

Bro we could pull your fuel tank (seats) and get the gas out that you don't burn off.... or swap back to your 92 map? What does "Da Boss" say?

Also change your oil prior to starting up your car in the spring.

Everyone has an opinion but for the bike/car I do a before and after storage oil change and store them with a full tank of gas+stabil. I also pull the battery and give it a charge in spring. There are little things like dryer sheets in the car, rag in the tailpipe, making sure IC sprayer tank isn't full to the top etc.... Works for me:)

I've obeyed by this rule since it was an advise given to me from my mechanic. He's been through automotive school with 30+ years of automotive work. I'd say I'd trust him when he advise me not to do it.

He likes to laugh at me too since he's a hot rod guy. But the guy is super cool.

Small price to pay for clean oil sitting in your car.

I'm sure it is but I'm ok with that.

yep! Although that whole opinion thing again-some believe keeping the old oil in is better. We've all got our ways.
