Seems under powered to me for how big the vehicle is. 2.4l turbo making 277 lb/ft of torque. I wouldn't think the mileage would be all that great either.
Id consider it. Once they are more common place I would test drive one. See what kind of price they are asking. Would be willing to consider trading the wifes jeep in on one if she was game,
Needs more power. 277 lb/ft of torque will have a hard time moving the claimed 5000# towing capacity. I didn't see any engine specs. Is this s 4 or 6 cylinder?
4 cyl 2.4l. Wife and I currently have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk that has the same 5000lb towing capacity. I have not found a issue with it getting things moving at all. Issue I had was visability and stopping while pulling wider loads. I borrowed a buddies 28' enclosed trailer last time we moved. It was empty when I towed it home so obviously it was no where near the 5000lb rating. It realistically was closer to prob around 3000lbs. That said it got going just fine but you deff had a difficult time even stopping that trailer empty.
Is it expected that this will have a base price of $40K? I can't believe what they want for new vehicles these days. I guess you get what you pay for. Maybe I'm just a cheap bastard.
5,000 lbs towing capacity? (2.4L direct injected turbo) Ok, fine, they got my attention. I was guessing it would come in at 3,500 lbs or less...but for once, Subaru delivers a positive surprise! Heated AND ventilated seats....another nice surprise. Standard eyesight, front and rear view cameras, rain sensing wipers...seems like they actually went upmarket a bit on this one. They are clearly targeting the Highlander, pathfinder, pilot, CX-9 with the Ascent, something that Subaru has been missing for years. I'm sure they will sell a crap ton of them. To me it just looks like a super-sized Outback. The towing rating is the big surprise to me, but time will tell how well it performs. After writing this post, I feel as though Subaru still has me firming clamped to their teet. Damn. Now if only they give the BRZ a big bump in horsepower (for shiggles) and a better engine in the STI....
I had read rumors of base 35k. Weather or not that will be true we will see. My guess just on what they offering that should be pretty accurate with top of the line model falling just short of 60k. New cars have gotten very expensive no doubt about that.
The video said that prices will start in the low 30k. I highly doubt that the top of the line model will top 45k. 60k is german luxury/suburban territory. One odd thing...the Ascent actually has less cargo space than the outback (by less than 1 cubic foot). I would think it would have a ton more, but it must be the massive folding seats.
Ah guess I missed that in the video..well if that is the case then damn...the jeep may just be getting traded in if its as good as it looks on paper....errrr video. Watching the video again it did say in the fine print the 5k towing capacity varies by trim level so something to look into.
My neighbor has one. They look nice. We ruled it out pretty early. My wife is super short and she didn't like how tall the step up was on it. I didn't think it was much different then the Jeep we ended up getting but alas married life and it is her car so yea.
I like it a lot! I've been looking for something bigger than my '10 Forester and this is perfect. Can't wait to test drive one!
I am mostly “yay” about this. Why all the chrome on the Touring package? This will most-likely replace my STi.
No doubt. And for something that would be a cruiser like that and you want a nice bump to stock power with no adding of mods the COBB would be a great way to go.
I believe the exhaust expelled from Subarus could technically be vape juice. Correct me if I'm wrong tho.
Lots of the forums are speculating that a tuned version of the FA24DIT in this is going to be the next STi engine.
Subaru would be ridiculous not to. Personally I think it would make a ton of sense for them to run this engine in the whole lineup. STI gets the top of the line version then do a NA version of it in the new impreza's Would certainly in my shallow mind make it much more efficient production wise for all the cars to use the same block and other components.
Call me a dumb dumb idiot head, but I just realized that if you take away two cylinders from the old 3.3 you get the 2.2. Same for the 3.6, you get the 2.4. Obviously the 3.0 minus two cylinders is the 2.0. Not sure if they have the same bore/stroke, but it sure seems that way.
