i have a question regarding the power distribution in subaru tranies. first off what is the power distribution in an automatic trany. (i dont know what model trany i have, ita a 95 awd auto, so i dont think its a 4EAT, since its so old) anywaay i have heard the following from different sources.

    F / R
    60 / 40
    50 / 50
    40 / 60

also whats the distribution for a standard 5 speed tranny?

    thanks

    both, and neither.
    Which model, and transmision.
STi's can get up to 35%/65% in both directions.
    Driver Controlled Center Differential
Exclusive to the WRX STi, Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) All-Wheel Drive, featuring both manual and automatic modes, uses an electronically (DCCD) All-Wheel Drive managed multi-plate transfer clutch in conjunction with a planetary gear-type center differential to control power distribution between the front and rear
wheels. Normally, DCCD splits power 35% front and 65% rear. DCCD also features a helical-type limited-slip front differential and mechanical limited-slip rear differential.

    WRX, Automatic
    Variable Torque Distribution (VTD)
WRX models equipped with 4-speed automatic transmission utilize an electronically controlled variable transfer clutch in conjunction with a planetary-type
All-Wheel Drive center differential. Rear wheel-biased torque distribution normally configured at 45/55-split front-to-rear. VTD also features a viscous-type limited-slip

    WRX Manual
Continuous All-Wheel Drive Models equipped with 5-speed manual transmission utilize a viscous-type locking center differential with torque distribution configured at a 50/50-split
front-to-rear. WRX models also feature a viscous-type limited-slip rear differential.

    So on so forth

The answer, as best I can tell is: it depends.

In 1 and 2, the auto apparently has a 50/50 split. In 3 and D you get a continuously varying split depending on wheelspin, not a locked 60/40 or anything like that. If you are accelerating it's more like 50/50, but cruising at highway speeds you are essentially FWD.

The VTD AWD system on the H6's is a 45/55 split I think.

I found it on the internet so it must be true.

Isn't the WRX manual 3.9 front, 1.1 center and 3.545 rear? giving it more power to the rear wheels? auto WRX 4.111 front and 4.111 rear like my 02 RS but with a limited slip rear? gotta love my 2 wheel wonder 2.5 RS. Can't wait to get money for a limited slip rear, I hated this last winter... hehe

Only 00 and 01 RS's have rear LSD.
