No problem, just figured I posted this since I still have some remaining from a case I bought not too long ago.

There are a lot of quality filters out there for $5 - $7. Why cheap out on the car's blood.

Agreed. After I read up on it and saw fram was making the Subaru blue filters, I decided to no longer use them.

Looks like it's just the ones that start with A21xxx OR A22xxx. My case is fine and I'll still continue to use the oem filters

If Subaru can't even source an oil filter competently, what about the rest of the car?!?!? Mine is now for sale.

How to read a Fram filter date code(A2187X):
    A2187X, 2 = 2012
    A2187X, 187 = day of year. 1-365
    A2187X, X = shift

    Defective filters were made on:

    187 July 5, 2012 Thursday
    188 July 6, 2012 Friday
    191 July 9, 2012 Monday

Fram news release from Feb 6th. Looks to be a small number of filters actually affected by this recall, <356.

I also seem to remember a similar leaky filter recall for the OLD white ones 15208AA09A made by Purolator.

Incorrect. That is what autoparts stores are for... so you can make the right choice about an oil filter ;)

I had that exact failure in the spring of 2011. Made a horrible mess.

    Ha! No kidding, right?

I've always used Purolator PureOne filters in my Subaru's. Except when I just changed the oil in my Saabaru, the Wally world didn't have PureOnes, only the regular Purolators, so I opted for a Fram Tough Guard. Thinking I might need to swap that thing out!

Fram has always been garbage. I'd use a used condom for an oil filter before putting a Fram on anything I own.
