http://www.slashgear.com/subaru-recalls-200000-vehicles-over-corroding-brake-lines-02276189/ Brake lines may corrode when exposed to salt water. Recall is specific to states that use salt on roads. Looks like some of us may be affected as we definitely salt our roads. I'll try to post more as I find it.
Per Subaru of America, they are in the process of determining which vehicles were supplied with brake lines from the manufacturer that found the issue. They were advised that more info should be available in three to five weeks, then they will send letters to owners of affected vehicles.
Look on the bright side, Subaru's have great crash structures. That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Subaru is pretty proactive when it comes to safety related issues and this is likely not an issue that'll affect anyone but they're erring on the side of safety.
Oh great. Guess I'll have to make the first trip to the dealer. Probably not an issue anyway since mine rarely sees salt.
Yeah, I called SOA, they're still organizing the recall. They will send notices in 3-5 weeks like the derpmaster said. Sounds like any car that's even been registered in one of the states listed will be included. Glad I called though, they still had a previous owner listed on it...
Bump. Spoke with Morrie's Minnetonka Subaru today. They are currently waiting to get their supplies for the anti-corrosion stuff into the dealership. They are taking names and phone numbers and will be calling people once they have the stuff in stock. They are expecting a few weeks out. For what it's worth, I checked out my brake doodad today, and while it didn't look terrible, it WAS rusty. It did NOT look like it was going to corrode through all of a sudden, however. Also, if you want to look for yourself, http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4456614&postcount=23
I called Bloomington (sorry Morrie's, but if I have to leave the car it is way more convenient for me) on Friday (the 7th) and was told they don't have parts yet and they told me they would call me when they have them. I received my letter a few days prior to this.
Got my letter also. If it's really as easy to access as the thread on legacygt.com says, I'm in no hurry to take it in. I'll watch it and rustproof it myself rather than deal with the hassle of taking it in. My car has barely seen salt anyway.
I got put on the wait list at Morries Mtka. Service adviser said there were hundreds on the list and it would be a while.
I had my brake line recall done on Tuesday. They just sprayed the lines with an anti-corrosive spray...
I went to the Bloomington Subaru. I'm no expert but to me they appeared fairly rusty. It obviously wasn't bad enough to get anything replaced though.
Had mine done today. Service writer said they had yet to replace any brake lines. Me thinks much ado about nothing.
Had mine done at Bloomington Subaru. Didn't wait for a letter, just made an appointment online. I was hoping my car was still under the extended warranty for the hubs, but it wasn't. Dealer said my car did not have corroded brake lines, but they put a coating on it to keep it from getting there.
Sounds just like the recall for lower control arms on the impreza for my year. They just inspected them for rust and put the protective wax on it. I have a feeling most of the other car manufacturers would have just ignored the issue. Subaru seems pretty diligent about recalls.
