Hey..this is Karen-Rich's wife. I finally got around to writing up an article to submit to Subie Sport about our MN Subaru ice race. If anyone has a few really good pics that they want submitted can you let me know..you can snail mail me or e-mail something..it has to be at 4 x 6 and 300 dpi (or 10 in x 12 in if the file is only 72 dpi). Let me know as soon as you can and I will get this sent out as soon as I can. You can e-mail us at [email protected] Thanks Oh by the way...it rained a few days ago and everything is frozen solid-no snow on the lake-it's like a huge skating rink!! Rich is going try to cut a hole out there this weekend and take a pic to post of how thick it's getting.
^AWESOME! I was thinking about trying to whip up an article aboutthe ice race last year. but it kinda never happened. since we have such a organized group we should have plenty off good stuff for subiesport articles. lol we could get our own column. as for pictures i would check out the t3hw00t.com gallery. http://t3hw00t.com/gallery/main.php otherise i think i might have some pictures which arnt on there. i will dig through and see.
why not hold off till after this next one?? lots more people and cars... ha ha and a chance of my car making it ina magazine... he he yeah right
Article is all written up and I found 3 really nice pics that Rich and I had taken. I thought it would be a great idea to get the article sent in ASAP so it can be published in the next issue and people will have a chance to find out more info on MN Subaru as the action is taking place. If we wait til after the Jan race...I think we miss a deadline and it wouldn't be published til Spring..by that time, everyone is sick of winter and won't take as much interest in the article. So we'll cross our fingers and hope hopefully they take interest in the article and get it published soon!
^ good plan, we should do a follow up article. for springs just with some details saying that the 07 one was a blast (assumign it will be, cause it will) and mayeb a few more pics. could also send in more pics then the 3 maybe they woudl do a whole phot spread for it. could be cool, and make those southern subie owners jealous. :-P do we get a preview of the article/pics?
why dont you throw out the invite to them to have them come to this years event and cover all the action! hell if they are whilling to come they can have my bed ill sleep on the floor.
Good ideas..I'll add an invite and I will get some more pics printed out and everything will be sent out by Thursday morning. The pics I have so far are of the line-up of everyone in the first race last year, a pic of Zaks yellow car with snow flying..and a pic of Rich taking out one of the snowbanks in his STi. I'm attaching the article here for everyone to read..I'm no professional writer but I was happy with how it turned out. I have just a few minor changes to add but this is basically it: With the winter season upon us, Pelican Lake in Orr, Minnesota is gaining more and more ice daily as the temperatures hit the single digits. That can mean one thing at Deer Lodge Resort-it's almost time for ice racing! With all beds, couches and floor spaces reserved in the cabins, the members of Minnesota Subaru are unpatiently awaiting the 3rd Deer Lodge Ice Race event. This year is already doubling last years number of Subarus to arrive with an expected number around 40 at our first race to be held January 4-7, 2007. Guests of all ages and nationalities from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan eagerly wait to get their cars on the lake and reak havok on the plowed courses. We have a variety of cars from stock to modified, snow or studded tires, foresters/WRX/STi/RS sedans/wagons...a little bit of everything. In the evenings we enjoy a big bonfire on the lake with smores and a fish fry. Besides the Subies, members enjoy bringing their snowmobiles and lighting off fireworks. You can race all day and all night-we hold a timed run on one of the days for fun. There is no pressure to win. Don't worry about getting stuck in the snow-it happens to many and there is always a helping hand around. Racers have started the motto that if you haven't gotten stuck or broken anything--then you're not driving fast enough! What better way to "feel" your car and learn the methods of driving on slippery surfaces than this! Besides the driving experience, you also have the opportunity to make new friendships and create memories to last a lifetime. For those that couldn't attend the first event of the year or those who had so much fun, we also host a second race which we have scheduled for February 17-19, 2007. My husband and I really enjoy being a part of the MN Subaru club. We love being able to host this event and getting everyone together. Be sure to check out www.mnsubaru.com to see pictures/videos of the races and to read up on other events! Written by Karen Las
Yes to all who attend this event this IS the event of the year for our club, one that leaves everyone with an ear to ear smile on there face and leaves them excited for the next one! Good write up Karen
you should add one heavily modified Loyale wagon to your list of cars  otherwise....looks good.
nice lookin write up. Could send some damage pics from last year to go with that little blurb. i know some of us stiff have unfixed dmg, my bumper is still cracked, and i still have my broken headlight. and i think there is a pic out there of my car eating a cone.(chux your never going to live this one down). also you should send a link to the video from last year. http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10303&highlight=ice+race high res: http://www.mvaras.org/icerace high.mpg and Shineynitelite: i ran allseasons last year. i got through it just fine, i had half way decent times. this year i got winters so i will see the difference. if all you have are allseasons you will be fine, i was (expect that drive home OMG)
if you've got rubber on your wheels, you'll be fine, and have a blast if you've got dedicated snow tires....you'll be competitive
^ last year i was competitive with half dead all seasons. it depends on alot of things. how good of a driver you are, tires to some extent, how much power the car has (more isnt always better), how much other people are drinking lol, ect....
Have you thought abou submitting this to the official subaru magazine "Driven"? might bw worth a shot. maybe they would include it because it would give them something about their enthusiasts. and alot of people get "Driven" that dont get subiesport.
