I'm thinking that I will sooner than later need an alternator that can output more amps than the stock one. Even with the 1 farad capacitor installed, my stereo causes my dash lights to dim considerably and the headlights to dim noticeably when the bass hits. Funny thing is that I don't consider it a very power-hungry stereo, so I even question the quality of the alternator. Add to this the fact that I might upgrade lighting sometime in the future, and it seems obvious I will need to replace the alternator with a higher output model. Any suggestions as to a particular model? Also, can anyone say what the stock one's rated at (sure I could Google it, too)? It doesn't look too hard to replace, but if I'm wrong hopefully someone will mention that, too.
go to a napa and have them look up a part number for your alt and see if they make a high output one.
have it rewound for a higher out put, there are few shops that that do it. Walters may do it or know a shop that does, I use them to rebuild harley starters a few times a year Walters Rebuilders 507 University Ave. W.
