Its 67 degrees out right now, lets start the summer tire swap discussion! Between the pot holes and state basketball tournament coming up I am in no hurry - but it cant be too good on the winter tires when its this warm?
There are no appropriate tires available for our current weather. Anyone who isn't a damn idiot does not schedule work or activities for most of March and April...
Hey look, a topic that hasn't been beat to death 43897532940857495739427594832574093275345684203702742395749573476457893498574296072398547239875965754 times on as many forums! As soon as it's above 41 degrees you need to swap to your summers, because any temperature over that immediately destroys all winter tires. You have 10 miles, max. Everyone knows that. The other best option is to do all seasons all year, because they wouldn't be called all seasons if they weren't good at everything. How else can you go ice racing and run the long course at BIR on the same setup!?
Put on your summers its bound to stay nice out! If we do get snow, just cut slits into the tread-block to increase traction. Ultimate smiles per miles!
I thought the summer tires were supposed to be used in snow? The colder the temps, the rubber gets harder, and it makes it more durable?
WTF are you talking about OP? I already switched to summer tires like 3 months ago. Its almost time to put snow tires back on!
If I'm taking my summer tires on a date, I'm not paying. And we're going somewhere fancy like red lobster or white castle.
dang, that escalated quickly! OP - your snow tires are going to melt in warm weather, but they will wear quicker. Just drive nicely on the snow tires until the temps are stable in the 40+ range. My personal easy solution was to put all season tires on my "summer" wheels, especially since my legacy didn't see any racing/very spirited driving where summer tires would have been needed. Although everyone boasts that summer tires are so great and do so well in the summer, about 90% of those people will never breach the capabilities of an all season tire to warrant the use of a summer tire.
subarus are race cars, stoopid. u need summer tirez so u can grip. True story though, I've already found and passed the limit of my all-seasons in the 2 times I've driven the car this year, so there's a time and a place and a use for summers. Worrying about it in ****ing march, however, is not the answer. Here's my no bull****, not going to have to worry at all answer. 1 May. You can likely get away with mid-april.
Here we go again. It matters more what tire you're switching to, than what you're switching from. I will be pulling the blizzaks off my Wife's outback before she drives to the cities in a week and a half, but I'm switching to all-seasons that are better than what 90% of the cars on the road run year-round. The Hakkas won't be coming off my Celica until the ground is thawed, we've had a good rain and the street sweepers have been out. But, then again, I won't really be driving the car at all until then. The Blizzaks on my XT6 are over 10 years old...this will be their last winter. When I start driving the Celica, I'll swap the gravel tires on the '6....
I carry my "off" tires in the trunk along with a jack, cordless impact wrench and a thermometer. I change them as ambient temperature fluctuates during the day.
I just drove my winters (general altimax arctic) 5000 miles from Rochester to LA and back. Through the desert twice without a single drop of rain. I don't see any noticeable wear. -Eazy
