Well I have negotiated a graduation gift with my father and instead of the gauges he got me he is now going to get me a full suspension and I pay for the gauges cause I was gonna get them either way. I originally wanted to get the tein flex just cause they were a bit cheaper yet widely supported but after hearing a first hand account, redymix, and reading a bit I have swayed away. Redymix suggested zeal coilovers but those are not gonna be in the states again for another 6 weeks and I dont feel like waiting that long and after more research I figure I dont have to. I have decided on cusco zero-2. People say the R is a bit stiff for street, especially if a daily driver so I decided against those. I am wondering however if I should bump up to the zero-2e which allows me control from the inside of my car. Is the extra 500 bucks worth it and could I even get it installed correctly? I am a bit hesitant just because of the electrical part of it but still want that control. So a couple of questions: Is the Cusco Zero-2E worth it for the control unit or should I get the regular Cusco Zero-2? Secondly is there any other company I should look into like KYB AGX or Tanabe? Please any input on the Cusco Zero-2's or anything relevant would be helpful.
You just have to worry about spring rates. Street I'd say 6kg/mm max on coilover coil spring rating all around. Anything higher and it gets stiffer. Of course I'm looking at 12k all around, but that's me. I'm going with JIC.
..I'll add my $0.02.... $500 for the ability to change from inside?! Get on your back and do it yourself!!!
Yeah that is what I was kinda thinking of but my problem is that I dont know how to do it. I was figuring that if I could get the controller it would kinda take the work outta it for me. I would just be able to set it to the levels I wanted instead of having to adjust each thing by hand which I would have no clue how to do. Also arn't the rear struts near impossible to get to?
Electronic Dampening control isn't about laziness. Especially around here with Minnesota's ****-ass roads. I use mine almost every time I drive. I have it set to super soft for the 94 and set to 6 and 6 for Hwy 61...if I had to "Get on your back and do it yourself!!!" every time I changed road conditions around here I would get pretty tired of it. Plus, the adjustments are usually on the tops of the struts, so you don't have to get on your back, you just have to pop your hood. Some people think it is bling, I like having the ability to adjust to road condition from inside the car. If you want to get out of your car on a day like today to adjust for bumpy roads...go right on ahead brother. That is all YOU.
That was I was thinking. There is only one set left in the states right now it seems so they are selling well at least, another good sign in my book. Now if I can scrape the money together or get my father to change his grad present. Seriously though if I am unable to pull this kinds of funds together what are peoples opinions on a strut/spring combo?
Sorry to hear that you feel you need to do that... Like I said, my opinion, but what is the advantage of doing this? When driving the RS, I have 3 settings.. autoX, track, and street. Why is it that you need to stiffen up the damping on the street, where one should not be pushing the car? Not trying to offend, but it seems like a very stiff price penalty to have that small "toy"... If it was $100, I would just call you a wuss but for $500 I would say something that would get me in trouble (not knowing you personally). Please take this with a grain of salt, too. One last thing... I use JIC coilovers and they are adjusted on the bottom (along with a lot, but not all, other coilovers).
I have a set of Zeal V6's and love them to death. I had Tein Flex before and thought they sucked. As far as changing firmness, they adjust from the bottom. It takes 5 min total to do all four. I leave mine on full soft which is close to stock as far as comfort. When I go to the track I turn them up to five out of six. My springs are 8kg in front and 6kg in rear. If I did it again, I might go a bit more. I could always swap springs though. Did you call Myles at Racecomp? He usually has some in stock. Or Gruppe-S Engineering. If you want a ride to feel them, shoot me a PM. Josh
