What should someone start with for suspension upgrades ('06 WRX)? Should I start with springs, or can I start with sway bars? And if I start with sway bars is it better to do both at the same time or can you do just the front or rear? Car is never going to be raced, just looking for something that rides real nice:yumyum: . Thanks
Stock ride IS nice. They do a lot of research to make sure of it. If it were me I'd go Sway bars and endlinks. That will change how the car turns, but won't do much to effect the way the car rides. Any suspesion modification will change the ride, so make your decisions based on rides in other people cars before you buy. I've seen too many people get nice suspension only to find out that a hard ride isn't fun for daily driving. Then end up selling it after limited mileage. It's a bad way to waste money.
I know this is not finished but wanted to make sure you saw it... http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17723
Methodless is right. Anything considered a "nice suspension" for performance will make your ride stiffer. Every bump will be that much bumpier and you will feel the definitely feel the road. Consider if you'll be able to deal with this if it's a daily driver. Right now, even the new tires I got has caused changes in the ride and it's definitely different. Think about things carefully and what you plan to do with it.
+1. Tires and wheels are going to change your ride quality dramatically. Although they also make the biggest difference in handling and cornering. Honestly, if you're trying to keep the stock ride quality, you can't go wrong with some mid size sways (I would highly suggest buying both, maybe at 22mm) and quality endlinks. This will give the car more of a racing feel, without the horrible stock body roll. If you want more then that, next think about springs and tires.
I'd just upgrade the sway's (I'd go with a 27f 24r personally) and endlinks if you want a nice ride with better feel and slightly better performance. For endlinks get something with poly bushings, as spherical ball joints will eventually clunk around corners. The handling difference is very small, but the comfort is much better.
Wow. I would say those sizes are high for a road set up. Personally, I wouldn't go higher then 24mm on a solid bar. http://www.whiteline.com.au/docs/bulletins/010barup.pdf
