Brittish officials "foiled" a plan to blow up planes in mid-air over the ocean from England to the US with liquid explosives over the night, but now this means that flights from England are on "red" alert, and all others are on "orange."

So if you're flying today, get there way early, the lines are supposed to be horrible, and they're not letting any liquids on of any kind as carryon.

I post cuz I'm grumpy cuz I'm flying out today.

That really sucks. Hope everything goes smoothly for you. But you know what that means now... they get to go WAY overboard again with all the security and I am sure they will get more laws passed so they can snoop on people without warrent. I am sorry but they just keep going to far. Civil liberties and freedom be dambed seems to be their answer to the problem.

Sorry, ranting again. It just scares me where we are headed with all this, George Orwell is coming. :(

At least the "Specter" Bill has been stopped for the time being, until after the recess, which is a real good thing. (the bill is the one that would make the wiretapping nonsense 100% legal)

Bet they get it passed next time with the latest news. Sad thing is a lot of people here do not even care. My mother being one of them. She thinks whatever it takes because she does not break the law. Of course it is not weither you break the law or not. This country, as everyone should know, was founded on ideas of freedom and civil rights. I still am not sure how they can do what they have been doing. It is not legal yet they keep making unconstitutional laws. Power always goes to the heads of the ones wielding it.

Anyway, you know all this obviously if you know about Specter. How do they sleep at night knowing that they are moving us closer and closer to a police state( I know we are a long ways from there but this is where it starts)?

One of the problems is that law enforcement technology and manpower is not keeping up with the "bad guys". I know no solution is going to solve everything but if we stop wasting money on the people making new laws and move it to better equiping the people that need it it would help. My understanding was that, for example, they had warnings about 9-11 but get so many tips that are bogus that they can not check them all out. Resources are a key problem. I support our guy and gals in blue, black, tan, green or whatever other color uniform they may be wearing. GIve then the resources they need not illegal Gestapo like laws.

I know no one person has or will have all the answers but maybe some real research into the problem and technologies needed to help with the problem would be warrented instead of taking the easy way out and taking away peoples rights like to having privacy in your own home. Wire taps and bugs without a legally obtained warrent is just not right. Do we really want to live in a world were every single move you make is monitored by someone? I am not a conspiracy theorist but it sure seems to be getting bad. It is my life and NO ONE has the right to monitor who I talk to, where I go, what I buy, and what I do. Especially in my own home.

See now you got me ranting again. :) :)

I’m glad to hear someone with reasons to back up their protests to what is being done to prevent terrorists. Far too many people are protesting the steps the government is taking, but have no alternative. They just protest and complain over the people who are taking initiative. Also, I think the events of today, and some reports over the past few years, of plots being thwarted are evidence that the steps that have been taken are working. More goes on behind the scenes then we know.
