I don't know right now. I think they're a great cruising car. However, if you want a sports car, the SVX isn't sporty enough. It has 230hp and some luxury options but it's too darn heavy to toss around and do stop light wars. I love the sound of the 3.3 H6 and would sound better opened up. I feel that if you want a car to make into a track car, look into something lighter and something with more aftermarket options (there's like 3 websites). But, the exclusivity of owning an SVX is cool since there were only 14,000 imported to the US, and I get comments and questions about it all the time. Valet's jump to attention when I pull up too.

Another gripe is that it only comes with an auto 4spd and with a really tall gear ratio that would theoretically redline in 4th at around 195mph. Although the speed limiiter is set at 142mph. I am collecting parts to turbo mine for some more power. With the right tires the SVX can really hang in the turns which I love. They aren't that much money considering what you get. I can't afford a WRX and my SVX is the next best suby for the price IMO.

    Have you ever driven one?

yup ive driven them, numerous ones, fwd and awd...fwd just wont do. i love everything about the svx, i didnt think they were that slow from stoplight to stoplight, definatly not an RS or anything, but it would wipe my L off the road on the freeway

I rocked an SVX at the track on Saturday  Don't know what mods but it was green with MN plates. Didn't see the driver either as he had a helmet on. Took him out of the hole and he never caught me. I'd imagine the car has good potential though as you have two more cubes to work with under the hood.

Once I was at the gas station and some guy pulled up in a green svx(I don't know if it's the same one u seen pete) but it was sweet it was a five speed and it had REALLY NICE sound, because of the dual exhust and the huge mufflers he had on it...But this was like the end of last summer..

i like SVXs. they are very unique. and currently there are 3 for sale in auto trader. i have never heard what the h6 sound sliek w/ exhuast but i bet its sweet. i have heard that tranny swaps are doable (with out too much pain). however i believe it is a different chasis from a normal legacy of impreza.

looking at some spec sheets the 92 one is the fastest out of the box. in the quarter. i would like to have one (or atleast the engine HEHEHEHEHE!!!) i have seen turbo kits out there for the SVX, i believe its a twin turbo kit.

the windows are kinda goofy for me. imagine going through a drive through with the car lowered?

the only 6 banger that will fit in an impreza is the 3.0 from an outback, the 3.3 is too long;)

I had one before my current WRX, It was a 94 ls. It was a good highway cruising car, but the issues these cars tend to have are tranny and wheel bearings. They didn't use a strong enough bearing set and the tranny was just not geard right as well as even being the right type, like a manual. It handled pretty well on high speed turns, but the weight is obvious on the slower speed stuff. Won't take a WRX or anything at the drag strip, but the WRX is to Subaru as a 911 is to Porsche. And the SVX is to Subaru as the 928 is to Porsche. The exhaust sounded cool, but the only aftermarket supplier I found if I remember correctly was Stebro? It's a nice car, but watch out for the wheel bearing and tranny issues.

My dad is looking at getting one. He really needs a cruising car because he goes up to Canada a lot. We test drove one that was at the dealership when we were looking for an RS; it was really nice. great car for just cruising.

I have a 92 SVX with an STi six speed manual transmission. Conversions with a WRX gearbox mean you don't have to change the rear diff ratio, and could probably be done now for about $2000 or less.

I did my conversion a long while back, before anyone knew how to do it well. My admittedly unprofessional install has made the car a little rough, but overall it is really fun to drive. In top gear it sits at 3000 rpms at 70 MPH. I had some problems with a fried engine computer a while back and looked into buying a new Saab 9-2x Aero (basically a WRX) on the GM employee promotion. It was a nice car, but it just made me miss my SVX more. It is now running once again, although the air bag light is on, power steering is weak, and there are some other little things. I have a Stebro exhaust, I think there might be a leak. Should it be that loud?

As others have noted, SVXes are big cars that can be a lot of fun, and there are some common issues to look out for. If you are in the market for, it is good to check for the presence of an aftermarket tranny cooler.

P.S. I've posted here a couple of times before, but I keep forgetting to come back.
