Just curious when everyone plans on throwing on their summer tires! Im thinking maybe sometime in a week or 2 if the temp stays above 40.

Just run two cars like me. Best investment I've made. The 04 sti sits in the garage while the 94 legacy turbo with blizzacks does the hard work.

Then the question is when to pull the summer car out?

It has been said every year, but I'll say it again since the thread has been created.
Your summer only performance tires do not like cold weather. They especially do not like freezing. The cold cycles are just as bad as heat cycles.
I always wait until the temps are continually well above freezing. No need to rush, my snow tires are cheaper than my summer tires, so I'll waste those first. :)

Wow, this is MN! We get snow in May sometimes. I already see highs back down in the 30s next week. I know it's been a long winter, but y'all are getting antsy in the pantsy. Stay safe, leave them on for now!

Glad my "summer tires" are all season dws. Snows, sleets or whatever in may, june or july, I'm ready for it. Will never own a set of summer tires again unless i live in florida or somewhere that never sees snow.

Sorry for bringing it up again! This was my first winter running a set of winter tires. I have a new set of summer wheels just itching to go on :frantic::frantic:

regardless of how warm it is. I usually wait until most pot holes are filled.

I'll go out on a limb and guarantee we'll get a significant snowstorm (6+ inches) before the end of the month. Maybe even more than one such storm. And it will not continue to be this warm either.

I wait until after April 15. Last year I had to wait until May 15 because of the foot of snow we got in Rochester. Also, below 40F summer compounds are like rock - hit some sand or gravel on a curve will send you sliding.

It's too soon for real summer tires, but if you are talking about all seasons (most likely) go ahead.

image.jpg Polished and waxed! So tempting to just put them on... But I'll guess I'll have to just wait and be on the safe side..

Do winter tires wear down as fast as people think in warmer temps? Let say in the 50s?

No they will be fine. I ran mine at DCTC last year and they held up without any unusual wear.

You're good in the 50's...it's the 70's /80's that aren't so good. So needless to say, mid to late April at the earliest.

On warmer days you can just try to avoid hard cornering/braking/accelerating on the winters.

Since pedavore (the wheel whore) hasn't chimed in - three sets of wheels with winters, all seasons and summer tires are the way to go. Or have three cars each with one of those...

As I say every year. WHEN you switch is dependent on WHAT you switch to. If you're switching to Potenza RE-01Rs, you should wait until June. I'll be putting my BFG Traction T/As on this weekend.

By only running them for a few months in the heart of winter, my Blizzak Revo1s have lasted long enough on my daily driver that I'm beginning to worry about age more than wear (6th season on them.....still 8/32nds left)

Good luck on the roads today to all of you who prematurely swapped over to Summer tires...or maybe you should just stay off the roads.

Hey guys, I know summer started last week and we all put our summer tires on but we got some freezing rain this morning. Is it time to put the winter tires back on yet?

I usually put my summers on in October ... and the winters on around April or May.

I like to live dangerously ...
