I'm starting this thread now since I've actually had some progress. I'll be updating this on weekly basis, since I only have friday nights to work on it due to 16 credits and two jobs. 1st gen Legacy, current mods Engine: 1991 EJ22T Wiseco Pistons Eagle Rods Balanced & Blueprinted Clevite Main Bearings Cobb “race” rod bearings Delta Camshafts Garrett GT2871r 56T turbo TiAL 44mm wastegate Custom pipeset Custom IC plumbing Modified WRX TBE Spearco FMIC TiAL BOV Koyo radiator Slim fans Custom lower radiator support Diamond coilpack Magnecor plug wires Aeromotive A1000-6 FPR Aeroquip fuel lines & fittings Outfront Motorsports fuel rail adapters Deatschwerks 650cc SR20 injectors Link Plus G2 ECU Zeitronix wideband w/ EGT 3.5 bar MAP sensor MAC BCS Driveline: ’05 STi 6 speed Exedy Hyper Single clutch ’99 Imrpeza RS rear VLSD K4RT30Y rear shifter bushing Spiider’s Auto DCCD controller Suspension: H&R coilovers RacingBrake 16” 4 pot kit Hawk HPS pads Goodridge lines Energy Suspension bushing kit SuperPro steering rack, lateral link, tranny x-member bushings Whiteline Anti-lift kit Strut tower bar Lower H-brace Interior: Autometer boost, oil pres, water temp gauges ’93 Legacy Sport Sedan interior What's changing: '98 DOHC heads Modified (again :laugh pipeset IC down low COP revised fuel system much cleaner wiring Opera Tuning style chassis reinforcements tubular bumper beam and plenty of other things I decide to change along the way. The car previously: Crunch! Where I'm at: This will need to be cut apart, extended for the DOHC heads, flex joint removed, etc. Opera Tuning is a shop in Japan that uses factory sheetmetal over the top of existing sheetmetal to reinforce the car. I'll be doing this in some key areas since the old Legacy is damn near a wet noodle by todays standards of chassis rigidity. You can see what I removed hear. I think there was almost 30 spotwelds on each one... I pledge allegiance... That's it for now. There is A LOT of stuff that needs to be stripped from the car. I don't have another car as of yet, but will in late january or early february. There's no shortage of stuff to do right now, so there's no rush on getting a shell here.
I'm glad to see your makin good progress. You'll probably have yours on the road before mine...either of them at this rate. So with the bracing you are basically doubling up on factory sheetmetal in critical areas?
Bingo. I wish I had a way to cut and chamfer holes in spots, but I don't have a way of doing that here.
Wait so I thought you were getting a new shell Dan? Either way I am stoked to see this out on the road again.
Ah. that's what I figured, but I didn't know that was called a chamfer. I'm going to buy a dimple die set to do those as soon as I build a press someday....
Last night's progress: Finding somewhere to put all this stuff is fun... Interior fasteners thus far :eek3: And I made some money while I was at it  The coolest part is that I get to do this all over again when I get another car
It actually cleaned up quite well. I brought a ton of stuff down into the basement where there is ample room. Don't worry. Who is going to fix her Forester if I'm not around?
^ Thats an understatement. The new car will get stripped, welded, painted, welded some more, wired, painted some more, so on and so forth. I'm not making any compromises on the car like I did last time, since it is getting done in my own garage. Just painting the engine bay will be an adventure and a half. Good thing I'm best friends with someone who works at Luther Collision. This thread may be active for six months to come.
looks like my living room :eek4: nice progress. sad to see the end of this car, but I can't freakin wait to see the next incarnation. planning on working on it at all during the week this week? I'll be in town....
I look forward to serving in the capacity as flashlight holder, bartender, and garage jester generalist from time to time.
Dan, now that I know where you're at I can definitely come by and help. I found out I haven't lost my touch at welding! I'm only really good with a wirefeed tho.
Well, it will be a while before any welding is on the agenda. Once my car is stripped, I'll have another car that needs to be almost stripped. Greasy clothes, safety glasses, and a creeper will the be the hot items in my garage for a while....
^ That's the plan, if it turn out according to plan. It only has 117k on it, and that's pretty much the turning point with cars like that. He said it has a little bit of surface rust, bust no rusted through holes.
yea, I'm in the same boat....well, give me a call if you are going to work on it. maybe I'll be able to find your house a little quicker this time :hsugh: that '93 looks like a prime candidate! dibs on the motor that's in it!
No dice. The corners were pretty bad, actually. It also had been hailed on. Oh well. I might have to get one from out of state afterall.
Let me know if you want me to look at some in the Tucson AZ area! I'll drive one back if its drivable! I'll be there the 9th - 18th.
^or in texas...i move january 19th...and i'd be more than willing to drive a car up for a buddy and fly back

Thanks guys, I'll keep that in mind. Eli, I don't know if I'll have $1500 by then, but we'll see what pops up down there at the time.
I had enough of the fam stuff so I went out to my man-cave. I decided to do a little work to my intake manifold and fuel system. I did the welding on on the intake a few weeks ago at Matt's place. It is pretty ugly, as I had never welded on cast aluminum before. If I would have known at the time, I would have messed with the balance control to get better penetration. Oh well.
I might go back to Matt's and go over them again, but when it is on the motor in the car, your won't really be able to see it anyways.
agreed but i disagree to much grinding takes away from the strength of the welds...doesn't matter what they look like as long as they are strong...i'd rather have strong than grind down and take away from the strength of the weld..but thats just me...
Those welds are only there to cap the EGR system off and to hold the brackets I made for the coolant expansion tank, neither of which are major loads on the welds. If for some reason they do actually fail, I can fix them fairly easily. I'll pressure test everything before I run the car.
I want your fuel system...how much do you have into that? I think this time around I'm going to be deleting My EGR and what not, I'll probably bother you about that when I get around to it.
Everything said and done I'll probably have about $400 into it not including injectors. The funny thing is, the line and fittings are over half of that. I still need to get a fuel Y-block ($35) and some different fittings yet. If I didn't already have the 900cc sidefeeds I would get this setup: http://www.outfrontmotorsports.com/fuel_rail_setup.htm A lot of people just cap the EGR ports on the manifold, but I wanted to put my coolant expansion tank there. Therefore I had to cut it off as flush as possible and cap it off.
surprised your still gonna use the silly plastic overflow tank. Didnt wanna deal with house routing of a metal tank?
I have a mint one, and I might as well use it, I figured. If I end up breaking it, I'll change the mounting for a WRX unit.
Yeah, I'm kinda thinking I'll just make a block off plate for my mani when the time comes. My Coolant tank is located right next to my pitch-stop so it shouldn't be an issue until I go Big turbo someday. My 93' is getting closer, I just stripped all the essentials I need off Tim's car for the other shell, and SVS Phil helped me fix my tranny too. Things are looking up!
