i'll wait for the reviews once the phone is out for a bit. theres always something wrong with the 1st phones that's out...
it's cool that it is open source but that leaves a huge hole for people to make viruses and such crap.
its a google made phone with linux open source operating system. I think it will be very good.. isnt everything that google makes?.. i want one
I have to get a Touch Pro when it comes out to replace my Mogul. It is somewhat unfortunate I require Windows Mobile for work. This device looks roughly the size of the Touch Pro.
T-Mobile G1 with Google Try this site... http://www.t-mobileg1.com/ Oh, and RallyNavvie, I believe it is open source which means you should be able to run your Windows Mobile programs if you want... -Marc
And I believe the only thing that was available today besides the press release was just pre-orders to make sure you are on the list when this thing launches...
My friend is going to pick one up today. Apparently she talked to a guy at T-Mobile who said he would hold one for her... When I get my full discount, I might have to look into these.
I'd hold out past version 1. I would maybe wait for something manufactured by someone other than HTC. I haven't been very happy with the build quality of my last 3 HTC handsets.
If it had a real keyboard I'd consider it... if it was the i-storm, I wouldn't even care if it worked... I'd buy it anyway.
A friend of mine just got his G1 and likes it. Said the device run a bit warm compare to the iPhone. It could be because he plays with it so dang much since getting it LOL.
how is the screen on it? is it as functional as the ipod touchs and iphone? im gonna hav an update soon and my BB is dead lol
I've not had a problem with my Mogul and it's been traveling with me for 2 years now. The only thing it suffers from is the lighter spot on the screen that a lot of people complain about. I never really notice it as I use a mostly black UI for it.
The screen isn't bad. I had an iPhone 2 phones prior to this and I just replaced my blackberry pearl2. I would just say flat out its a different phone than the iPhone. Only problem I have seen is the address book is a pain in the ass cause it dumps all your email contacts as actual contacts from your gmail account. So everybody and their mother you emailed is put into your phone. I figured it out and resolved that issue. Sorry to go off track, but the screen is good. Doesn't have the pinch in and out to do the zoom, but they made it efficient enough to work. Slower processor than the iPhone too. Besides that I'll let everyone know any other kinks I find.
My GF got hers today. We're playing with it right now. I don't have too much basis for comparison with its competitors but I will say that the interface is slick. It does seem a bit slow to boot up versus my LG Rumor. Also, the speaker isn't very loud when playing videos, but oh boy does it play videos nice! Took all of 30 seconds to get it connected to my home WiFi network and now the interwebz is super duper fast on it. I'm impressed so far. Oh, and the flip out action is seriously beefy. Keypad feels great. Phone feels very good in the hand. We're watching blue man group vids right now. Looks great!
Good size for my hand and probably good for hands a ways smaller and larger too. Reasonably thin and not too wide and all screen. Feels very well built.
Well, everyone will have a different standard, but it's actually thinner than my LG rumor and not much taller or wider.
Buttons... So I'm not mashing a bunch of tiny boxes on a screen. I'd rather mash a bunch of tactile buttons next to a screen lol. I'm not a fan of the suretype mode either. Had it on my blackberry pearl and there were too many words that shared buttons (i.e. hold=golf, pop=poo, i and u share a key so sick=suck and well, you get the idea... made for some interesting emails and texts). Also, can't do verizon and my last blackberry was anything but durable.
Right, I guess it all up to personal preference. Im a huge phone nerd and ever since the full qwerty touch screen keyboards have been available, I havent even thought about going back to a button type phone. I can smash together an email or text on my phone faster than I can on a computer, pretty sad eh? :hsugh:
I got the same way with the suretype... minus the embarrassing errors. I'm sure the touchscreen interface works fine and just takes some getting used to. It's a mute point for me tho, since I'm using t-mobile. I would be willing to give the the Storm a try if it were available through t-mobile right now. I pay for my family's phone plan. We are scattered across the country and verizon and cingular both booted us (a few years ago) since at least one of us was always pulling from a non-cingular/verizon tower.
