Hopefully the new wheels will be here within a few days

    The size is 16x6.5

I have a feeling I will go with a 215/60/16, unless you think I could fit
    something like a 225/55/16

    So far, I've looked at:

    Ziex ZX512

    TractionTA

(Both can only find in 225/55/16)

    K106 or

    Ventus HRII H405

    AVID H4S

    Ecsta KH11

    _____________________________
    A few others..

    Fuzion HRi

    Sumitomo HTR H4

These wheels will only be on throughout the summer/fall, so I don't need
to consider snow traction (have the steelies for that)

I'd like to keep the tire to a more "summer" tire, rather than something
that is considered an all-around-all season deal

I can really spend a maximum of 80 dollars/tires, not counting
    mounting/balancing

I'd really just like some input and thoughts about my selections

I have the Falken tires on my Eclipse. They are decent tires, but not sticky enough. I have enough HP to spin all 4 tires through first and spin them again into second. That may not be the tires fault. Just know that they are not the stickiest tire. And I have the Fuzions on my WRX. I got them in a 205.55.16. I like them very much. They seem to have a long tread life and hold very well around the corners. I can tell a huge difference between those and the all season Eagle HP tires I have for the WRX in the winter. They also have a nice rim lip protector, not all tires have that. My buddy runs the Khumos on his Talon, and they are an excellent tire for the price. I'd probably go that route unless you could find some Sumitomo tires for cheap (HTR+ high performance all season on tirerack.com are at $59 a piece 205.55.16). They're pretty good too.

As far as mounting them, Wal-Mart mounts and balances tires (55 series and up) for about $8 bucks a tire. Two bucks more gets you life time balance (I think).

    Thanks for the info

I'm going to stay away from walmart, I'm not sure that ours even has an auto section

I'll take them over the farm and fleet or Sams club to have them mounted, I think they do it for 50-60, and if it takes over 45 min, the mounting is free (Only if you buy the tires there, I assume)

I like the Sumitomo HTR, and the Fuzions, since both are in the ballpark of $60 dollars/tire

DO NOT BUY THE SUMITOMO OR FUZION tires... both are crap.

But the one thing you MUST understand is that you should NEVER CHEAP OUT ON TIRES. it's what hooks your entire car to the road, and easily has the largest impact on how the car handles, accelerates, and brakes. bar none.

The BFGoodridge g-Force Sport in 225/55-16 would be a good option
the Kuhmo SPTs wouldn't be a bad option... if it really came down to it.. but i'm not a fan of them.
i'd personally opt for the Falken FK452. 88 per tire at Edge racing.

most Kumhos should be avoided like the plague, along with fuzion, sumitomo, and wanli. their all poorly contructed tires made of patheitic compounds. there are a few good kumho tires out their, but their rather expensive. the SPT is turning out to be a decent daily driver tire, but low on the list of performance.

personally, i'd step DOWN a size if you've limited yourself to a 16" rim.
there are MANY awsome tires available in the stock WRX size of 205/55/16 that will exceed the grip of any of the tires listed for less money.

in that size, you can get (from edgeracing.com):
    Falken Azenis ST115 - $62
    Falken FK452 - $77
    Toyo Proxies 4 - $78
    Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212 - $79 <--- Personal Choice tire.

    Good to know..

I don't feel comfortable putting a 225/xx tire on these wheels.. and since a 205/55/16 is going to create more fender gap, I'm probally going to steer away from that also

I still haven't shot down the fuzion, sumitomo just yet

I'll take a look at the Falken Azenis, I have a feeling I was looking at those before, along with the Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212

If I can justify getting the SF STI struts/springs, then a 205/55/16 tire will workout just fine

    Decisions... hmm

i have continental contiecocontacts on mine, really good in the rain and dry pavement, not really any grip problem. can't really go wrong with them, they're oem on mercedes and jags, not like that makes any difference, but haven't had any problems with them.

    nope.
16x6.5 is the stock size for WRX/Forester/etc...
16x7 is the size of the GC8 RS 5/6 spoke wheels.

go 195/55,60,65/16, you'll be happier in the winter. smaller width will give you better traction since it has less surface area and will be able to dig itself into the snow. bigger sidewall will give you height for deeper area and the flex will allow the tire to use most of it's surface area. also 195 so you won't be too dissapointed when the roads barely have snow on them.

SenorSubie: if you're not worried about snow, just go all out and get a set of azenis or hankook. they are relatively cheap and are the best bang for the buck. dry traction is awesome and so far, my wet traction on my azenis are awesome as well. better than any other all season tires i've used. it'll give you an ugly wheel gap, but if you're a commited function over form, it wouldn't matter.....

Yeah, I might end up getting some new struts/springs as well, so a smaller tire size wouldn't be a large problem as far was looks/wheel gap

Thanks for the info, and yes, I think I'll go for a pure summer tire after all

ahh.. i was wondering if 195 would be too small for the 16x7s. if not i will go that route. i am kinda worried about sidewall though. right now i am rubbing w/ 195/60/15s. with bigger wheels i hope i dont rub more (195/XX/16s).
