    Anybody do their taxes yet?

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but the missus was ragging on me because she knows I'll get a refund. So I e-filed last night (was free from the IRS because I quit my job and my income was under $52k). All I have to say is WOOT! It was simple and easy and there is nothing quite like getting your money *back* from the Feds. Should be direct deposited in under two weeks!

If I hadn't quit my job, that money would be going straight into my car (like last year). As it is, I have to save it. :(

Did mine saturday after work. Got my state refund tuesday, should have fed soon.
    Turbo tax FTW!

And yes, most of mine is going to the suby too. :)
Finish the exhaust and add Utec, plus some of the little things.

    What are you guys planning?

I need to fix coolant issues with my car and buy a new clutch. Assuming I don't need a whole new block with new internals I may be able to buy me one of those fancy Perrin alky injection kits :yumyum:

all my refunds went to paying other taxes. I filed for three years in a row this year since 2 were on deferment after doing a bunch of investing. Got about $5k in refunds, all of which goes to pay for other outstanding taxes on investments.

goddamn investments... Oh well when they pay off its better than a tax refund anyways, but I haven't seen a refund in 6 years.

Ok, i have to chime in here...
I claim 1 dependant on my taxes. I am single with no kids. I think i got a whole $15 or so back from the state last year, and had to pay the big boys in the fed around $75. So, yeah, I have to pay in. But, I get more money per paycheck. If you ask me, the IRS shouldn't be your savings account. It makes more sense to keep your money to yourself and put it somewhere to earn intrest. I don't know how much everyone is getting back, but as an example, I just started a Roth IRA for myself this past year. I put in $4000 and earned $250 in intrest! In less than 1 year! So, If you're getting ~$4k as a return, you could have used that money during the last year to make another $250 for yourself.
    Makes sense to me.

I'm in the same boat, I have been claiming 1 the last 2 years. I have been dead even on state each year, and owed about $80 to federal. Might as well take it home instead of letting it sit there!

true, but "most" people when they get there paycheck they just spend it. I agree with what you are saying and invest a lot of my money in stocks, ira's and my 401k but i claim zero and still get a fat return. Even if you claim 1 you should get "some" back but it depends on your detuctions and how much you make.

I claim 1 and usually get less than $1k back.
Last time I claimed 2 I had to pay about $100.
Better to recieve than give somedays. :)

But if you were to figure out the difference between the gain on your pay check and what you get back, you would probably get more back per check then the rebate.

I know this year is going to suck for me since I have nothing to claim (and would have to break 5100 anyways), but next year I will have a house.

You are absolutely correct(in theory  ). I used to sell IRA's, Roth IRA's, and regular Non-qualified products. I claim 0 and take the big refund to protect myself from myself even though the right move is to invest with the difference. Like Josh mentioned earlier most people would spend it....myself included ;) Now instead of just buying car parts like I otherwise would have I can buy car parts and pay my car insurance for the year  I match the 401k only to the employer match amount and then put any other investment money into my Roth.

    Tax return? Sweet.
    Work bonus? Sweet.

Credit cards? Hmmm... not so sweet.

Having all short-term debts paid off? Doubly sweet!

Heh, I feel for you guys whose fiancee/spouse demands high priced rings/diamond/jewelry. In all honesty, I asked my wife to chose the ring that she wanted and I **** you not, she came back a day later saying "I want the Marquee Cut 1/2 Carat Ring from...........Walmart. $359 later and she was happy as happy gets. That was 6 years ago and she still gets compliments on her ring daily. Seriously.

Did I ever mention that I'm a lucky guy?
