so, my car died a couple days ago. right in front of my girlfriend house. it tries to start...but doesn't...throwing a cam angle sensor code. Wiring all appears to be ok. SOO...how can I test to be sure it's not the sensor itself? luckily, sarah's dad has one of the sweetest garages ever, so I'm going to push it in there tomorrow, and tear out the harness...and re-solder those joints, again. or replace the sheilded wire....or something.
test it? i would put a multimeter on it. when you turn it over you should see variying voltages across the meter. prolly between 0 and 5 volts. a better way of doing this is to use a oscilliscope. but chances are you wont have one of those laying around. if you do hook it up to the sensor and crank it and you should be able to see the signal pusles. in which case the sensor is good. i had to do this on the crank sensor, and i think they work on a similar principles. good luck.
easier way is to look for A/C voltage. I'm getting some, but I'm not sure it's enough/right. You should be able to test for resistance between the wires...Jeff told me the numbers over the summer when I was having the problems.
I have a o-scope but it is up at the school right now... but what I do have is a dmm with a o-scope built in that might work for what you are doing. I could bring that home easy if you want to use it.
haha, I appreciate the offer....but, unfortunately, the car is stuck up here. I'm going to pull it into the garage today, pull that part of the harness out, and replace the wire with sheilded, and redo the solder joints.....hopefully that fixes it.
