Bought this 2001 Subaru Forester S from an elderly couple a few weeks ago, after I got my license. Picked her up for $2,000 with 167,318 on the odometer. It's 100% stock, and I performed an engine check + oil change yesterday. The car comes with a full, and detailed maintenance book. I'm the 3rd owner, and sadly, the previous owners were smokers. I've nearly got rid of the smoke smell, I've been wiping, and wiping for hours, and I've been spraying anti-smoke everywhere. It's nearly gone, but a few more wipes and sprays, and I think it'll be completely smoke free. You'll also notice the rear windshield wiper isn't there, well I removed the entire handle + motor today, and I'll be replacing it with an OEM motor + handle in a few days. (When I decide to drive down to O'Reillys). Condition-wise, the car is nearly perfect. There is a small rust spot on both the rear fenders, but I'll drive over to my grandpa's house in a few days to fix it. It's honestly not that bad, considering what kind of state we live in.

I'm not even sure how much I can get for it, I've been seeing Craigslist postings of the same car, but a lower trim, and more miles for $3,200. So maybe I could start at $4,000? I'm willing to negotiate.

    Here are some pictures.

Sorry for the intense glare in this photo, couldn't see my phone's screen while taking the picture.

Auto or Manual? And personally as long as the smell isn't bad it should be fine. Gives it an authentic Japanese feel lol.
And how did you get $2000 from changing the oil and a wiper motor soon. I'd ask the mods to cut the original price part out, because you wont get offers that high if you tell them you got it for dirt cheap.
Just my 2 cents anyways. GLWS

Automatic, sadly. And yeah, sorry. I really shouldn't have said the price that I got it for.

Headgaskests were done sometime after 100k by the first owner . There is a book of the full maintenance history in the passenger glove box :)

I'm kind of an expert here, so I'll chime in. I buy and sell on craigslist constantly. I just sold a 2003 Outback for $3000 on Monday. Had 130k miles and was loaded, but the head gasket was NOT done and that was a huge turnoff to buyers. Plus there was a huge dent in the rear. Book value was $3600 in "fair" condition. Took 3 lookers to get a buyer. Price on craigs was $3200.
That's a really clean car there. I would check blue book value, with your options and see where you are at. Then consider how long you're willing to hang on to the car. I sell my cars in ONE DAY. I would be happy to write up an ad for you if you'd like. I always price below blue book unless the car is near perfect, which your car looks to be, but pictures can be very deceiving. I sold a car last night that book value was $2800 in excellent for $2700 ad price was $3000.
Give yourself good vibes and price the car a few hundred lower on MNSubaru to try and get a member the car they will love.

Blue Book is saying $2,450 in Excellent condition, and I'll try and borrow my mom's DSLR and take better pictures.

It's in near perfect condition, except for those 2 tiny that spots, and small scuffs here and now (Seems reasonable for a 14 year old car).

Honestly, I have no problem keeping the car. I'm in no rush to sell it, and for now, I just want to get a decent idea on what I could get for it.

If you'd like more information, Private Message me, and I'll get back to you after school.

Honestly, for someone who either just got their license, and / or are daily driving in traffic an automatic is not a bad idea.
