I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who came out and volunteered at the Nemadji Trail 1 Rally on Saturday. As the worker coordinator, I appreciate all of your contributions. It is thanks to all of you that we were able to run the rally. I know that your time is valuable and I hope you enjoyed the rally. I welcome any feedback that you are able to provide. If you participated either as a competitor or volunteer last year, please let me know what you thought about the service area in Duquette versus the area we used last year in Kerrick. I would like to invite you to come to the Minnesota Regional Rally Weekend, June 27 and 28 in Mahnomen, MN. The rally is based out of the Shooting Star Casino. It is a great event to work. Please register online at www.rallymasterpro.com/workers. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. The website for the rally is: http://scca-lol.org/rally/shootingstar/. I hope to see you there. Please also keep the date of Saturday, July 26 in mind. This will be the date for Nemadji Trail 2 Rally. We will be using the same road and a similar schedule. We are currently planning on servicing out of Duquette. More information will be available in the future. Once again, thank you for coming out on Saturday. Your help was much appreciated. See you in the woods, Carrie Carlson Chief of Controls 2008 Nemadji Trail Rally
Make it so it doesn't rain and I don't have to worry about sinking into the mud at my marshal point (which shouldn't have been a marshal point to begin with). I still had fun though
This was my first time working at a rally so keep that in mind when you read this. Overall it seemed like the event ran smoothly but there were a few snags that could have been avoided. I went out for bannering which was extremely fun but because of the lack of banner tape those of us that were bannering never got to be involved in the worker meetings. This created a good bit of confusion for those of us already on the course when the rest of the workers were headed in. Other than that I had a blast and I'll be back for sure. I never thought I could have that much fun standing in the rain watching my car sink in the mud.
Baby. My marshall point was under 18 inches of water BEFORE it started to rain. I moved a bit farther down the road to work the flying finish and at that spot I only dropped into the mud 4-6 inches. I definitely left some trenches when I backed out of the swamp. It was a good thing I have to drive 100 miles in the rain to get home. Now it will only take me 4 hours to wash the truck. Russ
i probably be there, my uncle and his driver plan on competing. I have not yet seen a rally. I think its time
Unfortunately we have some of the marshal points dictated to us by the DNR. Yours may have been one of them. I will discuss the rain with the weather steward, who apparently didn't do his job . Carrie Carlson Chief of Controls 2008 Nemadji Trail Rally
Thanks for the feedback. I agree that there was a lot of confusion and frustration regarding the bannering. It is on my list for follow-up. I will make sure that the banner tape is there at the appropriate time for the next event. Thank you for going out to banner. Carrie Carlson Chief of Controls 2008 Nemadji Trail Rally
Kelly, I think your marshal point was the one I had last year, where we actually had a forester (the profession, not the vehicle) on an ATV we had to get out between SS2 and SS3. Most of the marshal points for Nemadji look like points we'd just banner at other events, but most of the traffic in that forest happens on ATVs, not in cars.
Carrie, one other thing. There seemed to be some confusion on where to meet and at what time for the workers to head out to the stage. I caught the first half of the train as they were driving away, then we waited on the side of the road for another 20 minutes before everyone else caught up. But other than that and the constant rain for the 2 half of the day, and the fact that I only got to take 8-10 pics (none of cars moving on the stage):emo:, it was all good. Russ
I'm just kidding around with ya. It was a good rally and as far as I could tell it ran smoothly. I do remember the confusion as I was heading back from bannering with no book and totally just flew by my marshal point because it just looked like a little path. Then all of a sudden I was at the start with a man looking at me very sturnly because I was kind of driving a little fast/fun . (I should probably tone it down a bit next rally, this was the first time I've been in my car on gravel in close to two years). But overall, it was a nice rally and for my GF a first and she really enjoyed it, so I think I may have found a good one Hopefully see you guys at Shooting Star
Russ, I was hoping that being at the flying finish you would get some good pictures. I know that I got some there last year. That is why I put you there . Thanks for the info on the worker caravan. I have that as one of my notes to discuss and work on for the next event. Carrie
I think the worker caravan issue was mostly because the bannering people and the rest of the workers left so close together. The first caravan was the bannering crew, and the second was the "real" worker layout caravan. So it all ties back into the banner tape issue.
Well, that would have worked out ok, but I was actually working and calling the cars as they finished, so no pics for me. Not a big deal, it was raining to hard to take pics for stage 3 and 4. Well, the worker caravan left at 2 different times, and we had to wait on 46 (I think that was it) and wait for everyone else to catch up so we could get dropped at our marshal points. Then once we got to the start of the stage, we caught up to the banner crew which kinda started the whole thing over again. The part that I was talking about, was when we were done with the worker meeting, some of the workers jumped in their cars right away and got inline, and some wandered around looking at cars. Then the people who lined up right away waited about 5 min and left. I was just getting up to the road to line up and the first part of the group left. Then some people who knew they were supposed to follow me relised that we were leaving. Russ
I did it BIG. I now have a three piece crank. Ok for bicycles, not for V-8s. The pulley misalignment was our first indicator of the true problem. Other pics can be seen at http://s300.photobucket.com/albums/nn15/mayhem83/
So is there anything left in the motor that can be used?? Short block is junk, but did the heads get hit with the pistons? Russ
In another e-mail he said "everything below the cylinder heads is junk," but last we talked (right after the engine blew), he was talking about a different block (stroked 5.0L/347?) so it wouldn't matter much. Mark, I keep thinking I should offer to help, but then i reember I need to get my own car running for MRRW too...
Everything above the block appear to have survived. There is evidence of minor piston to valve contact but no visibly bent valves so no hard hits. Mark
