After running countless lines of datalogs over the years on different levels of tune with various maps, I have found that BP/Amoco is the fuel that my car likes the most.

In other words, datalogs show that it knocks the least and allows for the highest timing.

I have also found the whole "non-oxy" thing to be not worth the time. In some cases I've found certain brands of non-oxy to cause the ecu to lower the IAM to as low as 12. That's 25% less "knock correction" that could be added on top of the base ignition map. In other words, less power. I have never run non-oxy BP/Amoco fuel, so I cannot comment on that though.

    Tom,
i've put BP Non-Oxy in my car a couple of times, and it "felt" better.
now, i know all about placebo effects, and have very little/no evideince to back this up, but i plan on filling up with BP NON-OXY tonight @ the station off of 494 and Bass Lake Rd. i'll do some data-logging when i get down to about a 1/4 tank.

Well, the non-oxy will give you alot better afr. When you run oxy/ethonol gas, your afr's will richen up. All I run in my car is 92 non-oxy, and my aim is always 16, and I have never seen the aim drop at all. In the next couple of weeks, I am really going to start digging into my tune to see what I can get as far as afr and timing goes, and then switch over to a blend gas and see what happens. The other thing you need to remeber is that every car is different, so you may be able to get away with a certain gas that other cars can't run. Also, if you get a custom tune, that will also lower your safety window, so you will want to stick with whatever gas you get tuned on.

Just because it's richer doesn't mean that it's worse. Ethanol has a much lower stoich value. Different fuels, different afrs. The determining factor is that your afr curve suits your fuel.

But then again, you are probably the last person I would want to argue with on tuning, hehehe. ;) :)

I've been running BP 92 nonoxy since I got my Aero last summer, and while I don't notice any "driving" difference between it and the 10% ethanol blend, I sure notice a mileage difference. Every tank with the nonoxy is 27-28mpg. I've switched to the 10% ethanol a couple times, and it's usually in the 23-24mpg range. I've put on 25k miles in 10 months, and a few mpg makes a big difference. :)

If you aren't tuned for it you might as well just mail me your money.
