A couple friends and I were out trying to catch the tail end of the meteor shower later last night around 1:30am. I was going down a gravel road very near my old house here in Rochester when a deer jumped out in front of me. I was doing about 55 on the gravel road (speed limit), swerved to avoid the deer (stupid), went into the ditch, and basically wrapped the forester around 2 trees. The first tree I hit on the drivers side rear of the car and it literally tore the whole rear quarter off the car including the strut tower/suspension/hub AND the passenger side rear door. Literally they were completely torn off of the car. After that the tree spun me around and put me into a second head on collision with another tree that sent the air bags out. The car is beyond totalled (carnage pics will ensue soon) but I was literally able to walk away from the accident with as far as I know at this point only scratches and a few big bruises. THANK GOD I was the only person in the car.

I'm happy to be alive. I think I'll go look for another forester.

Whoa, thats some serious ****. Sorry about the Forester, that thing was prolly one of the hottest toasters ever. Good to hear you're well and good luck on the hunt. I'll let you know if I happen across anything.

I am very happy to hear you are OK, there is a leason in here.

Always go for the "Deer" rather than the ditch. I have hit 3 deer in my life all on busy roads when I had no other choice. It was take out deer or take out other cars. In each case I was fine, in fact didn't even set off the air bags, although the cars were in really bad shape each was repariable.

Do not take this as cristisism in any way, you did what you had to in your situation.

Oh man, this sucks. I'm happy that things did not turn out badly, it's good that you were not injured. Also, I'm glad I got to see the car at least once. I can't wait to see what you'll do next.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. The toaster will be missed but all that I really care about now is the fact that I'm ok. I've been resting all day as I didn't get hardly any sleep last night. I still need to go and get checked out at urgent care too, but I think I will do that later tonight. I just got discharged from the ER with the A-OK aside from some bumps and bruises/scrapes. And a prescription for vicodin for my ribs.

It's impressive, it will be a day or two before I can get them up. It broke the rim clean off from the hub, and basically tore the entire rear quarter off of the car from just behind the passenger door all the way back. The strut tower/strut/spring/hub/knuckle/axle were sitting next to the first tree. The second tree took care of the front of the car, the roof is smushed in right where the rear passenger would have been, and the passenger door was also torn off. To say the car is totalled is an understatement. It basically turned into a crumpled ball of metal around me and saved my life.

Bummer. Its crazy how those little furry brown things can cause so much trouble. The one deer I hit I was doing about 100 and if I would have swerved at all I would be here today. The deer set my airbag off so there would have been nothing left for me.

Pics or it didn't happen ;)

This is basically what happened, or very similar to it, but only a harder hit on the side of the car that took the side off. Plus I went through the ditch first and slide sideways.

    Glad you're ok.

Mike, this is very true. I lost a cousin trying to avoid a stinking pothole. Your'e better off hitting whatever animal/pothole that's in front of you than to take your chances offroad.

Anyways, waiting for the part out.

There isn't anything left to part out. The prodrive muffler took a serious shot and is bashed up. The downpipe I'm sure is bent because the IC was pushed up against the firewall. Plus I don't think the insurance company would let me take stuff off of it. I would only get 3/4 wheels because one of the wheels was broken clean in half. I'm not buying this back. There really weren't that many mods on the car anyways.

A tad yeah, it actually didn't take the brunt of the frontal impact, though it is toast. The lights are done for as well, including the exhaust i'm sure, skid plate, and rims. The springs *might* be salvageable but that is so not worth the time/effort to pull them off at this point.

Yeah I had Forester specific swifts. They rode AWESOME, I would definitely recommend them. If you want to upgrade the struts you might want to consider strut top spaces too to keep some ride height if that's what you are going for.

what struts did you run?? stock Forester??

I have 04 wrx sedans at the moment and I have butt-sag... which is fine but I think the struts are going out on the rear.. oh well they cost me my wrx hoodstruts and $20 so what do I expect...

so I am wanting to upgrade a little later this year.. I want good handling (DD and maybe eventually some track)

Mike Wagner is gonna sit with me too and go over it all, but I need info on what works well with the Forester...

Try Forester swifts on 02-03 wrx tokico d-specs with the 1/4 or 1/2" strut top spacers that are made. That is supposedly a VERY good handling combo with good ride height.

Baja turbo's are pretty sweet. They are on the slower side of the turbo'd family, but I have a feeling you can mod them fairly easily.
