maybe this has already been said but they are really ugly. I have not seen a similar thing in any other state. they look cheap and like they have been printed by one of those el cheapo $30 printers. I hope I will get to keep mine for a long time, I refuse to have this new type of plates. what do you guys think? is it to reduce costs?
They say the black digital ones are for higher contrast and greater readability. I actually like them better, plus you have a choice of many different styles(pictures) now.
Yes, they're gross. They're definitely cutting back on costs. The first time I saw one I almost called in the plate to the cops because it looked fake.
Thankfully I'll be in WI when my new plates are due, hopefully they don't do the same thing. I can't stand the cheap look of the new plates, and yes, it does appear as though they are fake. Plates look shopped, hehe
does anyone have pictures of this plate? also, if I got personalized plates, would they use this ugly plate?
I dunno, I think a lot of states have been going with these kind of "cheaper" plates for awhile now...
I am glad to hear that almost everybody thinks the same. I think even with personalized plates it's the same but I am not sure. Also custom plates in MN are one of the most expensive to get.
yeah, i guess with them being the most expensive, maybe a plate that contributes to a charity might be a smarter/nicer thing to do
You can kinda see my plate here. The letters are digitally printed instead of raised. I've only noticed the difference up close: I like the new ones better bc they're easier to detail. The raised letters collect too much crap too quickly.
I rock Michigan plates. They are just like this, I think it looks better? Minnesota's look way better. I wish Michigan just went with black printed letters on a all white plate. Maybe just "Michigan" across the top in Time New Roman? haha
yea, they definitely look cheap. I get the extra contrast from the black, but it doesn't match the blue on the rest of the plate, and the fact that they're not raised makes them look 1/2assed. I think once the 4runner is running, I'll get collector plates for the '6. as the 4runner still has the old style plates.
I had to put plates on my previous car right after the new plates came out, I thought they were fake. I grabbed the 20 year old plate from my dad's old '79 Caprice (Landau with the angled back window, car was bitchin) he had and the new plate is like 2/3 the thickness of metal, feels REALLY cheap. However, it's not a battle worth fighting. I got the 4 TROOPS plate on my VFR and I'll have the Critical Habitats on the Subie when it needs plates, because they're less ugly and support worthy causes. That and the red / white / blue plate matches my red / white / blue bike.
Yeah, I put in the extra $30 or $40 for the fishing one. Totally worth the money and it goes back to the fishing/wilderness. Um, are you talking putting a name on the plate or the critical habitat? Because mine were super cheap. Worth every penny, dime and nickel. my plate: http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33773 DMV Choices: http://www.dmv-department-of-motor-vehicles.com/MN_Minnesota_dmv_department_of_motor_vehicles.htm
Uh, but from what I've seen WI plates cause you to drive 5 under in the left lane and you may also appear confused about where you're going.
well i just dropped a bunch of money on some custom ugly plates this afternoon.... sure hope i get WAGACY
