Ok since the Scavenger Hunt is a bust I am pulling the plug, dragging it out into the field and putting her down. What would people like to do between now and LAX? I want people to post up some ideas in this thread, then we will have poll and run with something new. Here are some ideas to get your brainstorms started: MNSOC Cruse (somewhere in MN or WI) MNSOC Paintball MNSOC BBQ / Show and Shine MNSOC Golf Tournament Please post some ideas and we will run with it.
BBQ/Swap Meet would get the biggest turn out, and be a bunch of fun I think... May or April is fine by me...
The officers have talked about a road rally. Pretty easy to set up and reasonably cheap to insure actually. As with any event however, whether we can host one depends more on interest and actual turnout.
Yeah that is the thing. Post your ideas here if you have any ideas about other types of events. Then i will throw up a poll.
More details on a road rally...is it like the cannon gamble race? for example where you race on the freeway till you get to a certain destination?
no. there will be no "racing" on public streets. More like get from one destination to the next and collect items and destinations (or clues to the next destination) as you go. Penalties for speeding and dq and a swift ass kicking for recklessness. edit: you seen the show bullrun? imagine that except the destinations are more fun (Mark mentioned ice cream shops, candy stores, that kind of thing). Also, less car crushing, less drama, and less Goldberg... so better lol
I'm pretty sure that we would not want to be associated with any racing event on a public road. We don't have the insurance, and we certainly would not want the bad press for when the local PD starts pulling our members over en masse, or worse yet some asshat plows into a car and kills the occupants.
I like the idea of combining Show-and-Shine, BBQ, and maybe a swap-meet. The cruise would be nice too, but we do have the big LAX one in the summer.
Of course road racing on the freeway would be absolutely impossible. However, IMO i wouldn't mind trying the road rally, i just feel it's complex to organize unless it has been done before and worked out well. Otherwise i would also love a cruise. Or even a bbq/car show and shine would be cool
Derek, I thought the scavenger hunt was a good idea, I just hadn't posted up in the thread. The scavenger hunt sounded a lot like the Tombstone Trail rally, which is insane amounts of fun if you've never done it before. With the Tombstone, the local LE agencies are notified of what's going on. A speeding ticket results in a DQ, so it's in the competitors best interests to keep things safe and legal. It's not so much about the "racing" as it is about finding the clues and having fun as a group.
This is exactly what we had in mind. Fairly simple to organize and run. Easy to get insurance for. Huge fun factor!
I don't think your average mnsoc member would be interested in a true TSD rally - there's a lot of math involved . A gimmick rally would probably be of more interest and it sounds like that's what was being discussed.
Just get a smart co-driver? a TSD through a city would be hardcore. It would be fun to do one w mnsoc but i would rather leave the planning to the seasoned folk that plan the southern MN ones and the arrowhead region ones. BBQ swap meet car show type thing would be sweet. Kinda like Zip tie's meet last season but with less adverse conditions and more sun
Sunday would be a good day to get the poll started. Also, when we do decide on an event, if anyone wants to help or even take the reigns, it's greatly encouraged! That goes for any event! Just PM one of the officers if you're interested.
And not only are we looking for more event ideas, we are also looking for people that want to help plan/organize them. You will get a whole new appreciation for what it takes to make a event work, once you help get it rolling. Russ
Yes if anyone is interested they can hit me up via PM. I am more than happy to let people help out or even plan the event. don't be shy, the more the better. Bump, the only new idea besides mine is road rally and swap meet... anything else?
Maybe rent a go-kart track for half a day? I think there was one out in Maple Grove that I went to last year that was pretty awesome. One track that goes indoor and outdoor. And they're of the helmet wearing variety, so a little faster then the typical variety.
I really like the go kart idea, is there a pro-kart still in MN? I remember there was one in Blaine a looong time ago. I also like the golf idea...
The kart track in MG is Prokart, and they've got a great setup there that you can run year round, they have an indoor track as well as a section that goes outdoors. One 20 lap session and your forearms have gotten their workout for the week. I went with some friends for an afternoon and after 4 sessions I was really glad I had power steering on the drive home. I think this would be a great day.
these one also in Burnsville it is really fun to do for peopel that dont know what pro-kart is karts: European manufactured karts powered by Honda 6.5 hp engines speed: im 250lbs and i hit 34mph my buddy 160 and he hit 42mph. View attachment 21045
What if MNSOC worked with another car club in the city and tried to get a Club on Club paintball match. i personally think this would be a blast, and it will bring the whole car community closer together.
Prokart is cool, but you got to go early if you want to rent the place. I know when I used to do it all the time, it was about 650 per hour (starting at 8am). If this is where we want to head, just let me know, I know some people who know some people who can get us a deal. But to rent the place, it will definitely be a pay in advance and no refunds if you do not show up. Last time I rented the place it cost me over 500 for the morning thanks to the people who did not show up. Russ
Well I have a few friends in a mustang club if we do go with paintball. But with all the people in this club I think we would have some good size teams.
it was a joke. I have no interest in having a car club paintball tournament... unless we can take our cars into a field and shoot at each other.
Yes, i know a feild we can use... and i know where we can rent guns.... but that would have to be a non-MNSOC event.
^Lmao! A bbq would be fun as always, but renting a space on short notice may present a problem. I thought Lexies idea last year for a car show was a good one:dunno:
