Thought I would share for the gaming and GT fans. Enjoy! http://www.gran-turismo.com/en/sp/d2788.html
Also, if the PS3 was so powerful, then why did it take 4 of them to display that resolution? If we are going on about PS3 power, then there isn't much to talk about there, since there isn't a single video card produced in the last few years that can't display 1920x1080. Naturally, if you put 4 video cards in a PC and had the outputs synched onto that projector, you'd have the resolution that they achieved with 4 PS3s. I don't see what the power here is. Video processor farming isn't a new concept.
I love my PS3, and I have the demo of the new Grand Trismo! I also just bought Mortal Combat vs DC Comics and it is awesome!!!
I don't think I'd look at it from that angle, I think I'd look at it from the angle that you need 4 projectors or displays that support 1080p in order to create that display. Though 4 GPUs from a PC or a PS3 can create the composite image there is no single projector or display that I know of that will put up a 4096x2160 image. Creating image is easy, displaying it is the hard part IMO.
It saddens me..:emo: But I'm just happy I was able to sell mine for around the price I bought it..
That's Sony's new large scale Full HD projector. It displays in that huge resolution. It isn't 4 projectors, it is four Playstation3's displaying 1 quadrant of the image, and then another device combines them into one large image which is then displayed using Sony's new projector. The projector model is listed in the article.
Sony SRX-110. Displays in 4096x2160 full HD res. I don't know that they are available for purchase yet, and if they were, get ready to go broke.
I dunno, I like my PS3. The argument that there's no games on the PS3 is old and tired, there are plenty. Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, Motorstorm 1+2, Resistance 1+2, and my favorite this season, Valkyria Chronicles. Damn that game is as revolutionary as LittleBigPlanet imo, but it will never sell in the numbers that it deserves. These are all exclusive and all pretty top notch, and that doesn't even include the cross platform stuff like SC4 and SSF2T:HD and SF4 if you like fighters, plus all the upcoming stuff in the next quarter and 2009 (Gran Turismo yes?) Oh yea, and it plays BluRay and Divx/Xvid stuff too, plus it hasn't died on me yet like my xbox360 did. And it comes standard with a hard drive that you can swap out with any old 2.5 PC hard drive to gain stupid amounts of space on the cheap.
The problem is that PS3 games will always be ports of X360 games. Which means you will never see cross platform games take full advantage of the additional power. That being said, the PS3 is not some super powerful melt your face machine. It's a pain in the ass to work on, everyone hates working on it. PS3 games are rarely profitable for 3rd party publishers, which is why the PS3 game library is short on the all important console movers. Gran Turismo has lost its luster, long drawn out dev cycles and the truth is that them game just feels stale, just adding cars doesn't do it anymore. i worked on the first 3 GTs and even I'm tired of it. Little Big Planet is over rated and so is resistance. Fable 2 and Gears are much MUCH better games. I think it all depends on what you use the console for, I play a TON of games and i with out doubt prefer an X360.
Fable 2 is overrated just like the first - god I cannot stand the artwork in that game, it's just plain ugly. Huge world but nothing to do and no direction - just fetch quests. Gears is rehash city but still fun to play and looks good. Resistance is a little bland but solid. LBP IS revolutionary, but not perfect. What other game out so far has done what LBP is doing? On ANY console? Also the game I mentioned, Valkyria is also revolutionary. How many other games combine turn based strategy with 3rd person shooting with RPG elements and have it wrapped up in such a smooth package? It'll never sell though because it's not a twitch FPS. None of the games I listed before are ports of 360 games. And it really depends on what type of games you play. I have both, and I spend more time on the PS3 than the 360, plain and simple. I can have more hard drive space for cheaper on the PS3, my joysticks for fighting games can easily be used on the PS3 with cheap adapters, while MS locks everything out of the 360 that's not made by them or licensed by them. The 360's digital pad is trash, the PS3's is much more precise. I can go on and on.
Of course you can go on and on, but the sales numbers don't lie...the PS3 needs more exclusive titles...that are actually good in order to move more units. I personally like whichever system can offer me the greatest number of good games at the lowest price and the 360 wins hands down.
If you wanna base how good something is on sales numbers, The Sims is the best selling game of all time. Do you think The Sims is the best game of all time? The wii outsells both the 360 and the PS3, but I sold mine 2 months after I bought it. It's all based on preference like I said. PS3 has PLENTY of exclusive titles that are actually GOOD - have you even tried any of the exclusives I've listed before putting them down? MGS4 isn't good? LBP isn't good? Valkyria isn't good? Come on now. How many good exclusives on the 360 actually venture past the dime a dozen FPS? And how many of those exclusives end up on the PC which I'd rather play FPS' on? Gears 1 was fun, but I played it better on the PC. Mass Effect is great, but I played it better on the PC. And the 360 is supposed to have all the JRPGs this gen, but how many of the JRPGs (if you're into that) on the 360 are even worth playing besides Lost Oddysee?
With the exception of MGS4 none of those games are good enough to sell PS3's... Face it, exclusives sell systems. Especially now that FF XIII is going to be on the 360 as well, a lot of people who might have sprung for a PS3 are going to consider grabbing the cheaper XBOX 360. As soon as I heard that news I tossed my PS3 on CL and sold it within a few days. I don't forsee much of a future for the PS3 until they start getting more big good exclusives rolling. When I say good, I'm talking about games that are appealing to a large audience of gamers.
Preference. There are no such things as exclusives these days unless they are first party. Anything 3rd party is only timed exclusive. SquareEnix is a joke now, there hasn't been a good FF in over 8 years. Which makes the one with the strongest first party the real deal. Sony's umbrella of first party devs is arguably stronger than MS's, with a more varied lineup, and that's what I prefer. I despise games manufactured for the masses, just like I despise movies manufactured for the masses, just like I despise music manufactured for the masses. Stuff better be damn new and unique to catch my interest these days. And there is where our views conflct. Your idea of "good" does not match mine.
Meh, I'm sure we like a lot of the same games, I am just being more realistic about what the PS3 needs to reach the same level of success as the PS2 (which imo is a much better platform for RPGs than the PS3 will ever be). You love your PS3 and thats great, but if Sony doesn't step up to the plate and get those games rolling out then there isn't much of a future for the PS3. I play pretty much every type of game, but its hard to say that big titles like Gears of War, Halo and Fable aren't good games. Your welcome to dislike them but the masses have a much louder voice than your own and it shows when you take a gander at the sales numbers on those titles.
I honestly feel the exact opposite. The xbox360 is a tired console that is typical Microsoft crap. Prior to making sure it works properly they just release it and hope for the best. Then they try to makeup for this lack of quality by throwing their weight around with game developers for "exclusives". I for one will pay the extra money for a system that has more potential and includes a Blue-Ray player which looks amazing on my 120hz TV.
I don't own either console, so I'm not really biased. With that said, your logic makes no sense. If I had to buy a game console, I'd buy the one with more games, more games that are worth playing and more hit titles. A console could have all the potential in teh world, but if nobody writes software for it, it isn't worth anything.
PS3 owners can still hold HD-DVD over 360 folks, at least for another year or so until the dead horse gets old. I bought mine (one of the 60GB models with hardware PS2 emulation) because I wanted a BluRay player. I had chosen my "side" on the HD format war almost 2 years ago. I also wanted to get rid of my PS2 yet still be able to pull out GT4, the GTA3 series, some of the older FF series, and the Ace Combat series. And then I also knew that there were a few exclusives to the PS3 that I wanted a crack at like GT5. I knew pretty quickly that the PS3 was lacking in games but what it lacked in games it more than made up for as my BRD collection grew in size. And now that Criterion has started to release their transfers on BRD I feel I made the right decision. Funny thing is if/when the 360 gets a BRD drive they'll have to pay royalties to Sony. And yet I'm still contemplating getting a used 360 if only to play the one exclusive to that console that I even give a sh' about: Ace Combat 6. However I heard it got even more cheesy than the previous ones with its storyline, but as long as the combat model is awesome and has the unlockable jets like the last few then I'll be happy.
There is an acutal test that went on and reviewed the X-Box 360 vs PS3. The PS3 loads the games 15% faster then the X Box. The only thing I don't like is that everytime you buy a game, some require you to install a new software update along with the amount of time you have to wait for it to install the game.
You buy a console strictly for games. I for one am different. If I want games I will build another computer and play them, it is simply the best gaming platform there is. I bought my PS3 for BRD and the occasional game, had my Xbox not died on me from its poor build quality I probably would feel a bit differently. Games just simply will never makeup for the fact that you need to replace a console every few months.
The cost of that console I've replaced "every few months" is roughly the same as a high end video card. Granted, FPS's are much easier and more fun on a PC, you have the additional fun of keeping your PC up to date and running. After being a staunch PC only guy for a long while, it was nice to just hit a button and not worry about anything aside from hitting "start" on my controller. How many years was the original xbox or the PS2 on the market prior to the current generation of consoles? Prrreeettty sure they were around for more than a few months.
i bought my ps3 because it is an upgradable blu-ray player. basically the same price as a standalone player, and i'm not limited to the features at the time the hardware was released. likely the only game i will ever play on it will be GT5, if it's ever released.
Yes the cost is low, but you are without it for the entire time Microsoft is fixing their mistake...which can take a while. If you are updating your PC more than once a year to play games you need to learn to build computers.
I am at hte point where I could afford a PS3 for the house...but I don't see the point because there aren't any games out right now that I want to play. None. When it comes down to it though, I'll buy a PS3 for the same reason someone else listed above, for the cheap BlueRay player and GT5 when it ever comes out. Otherwise, I have no need for a PS3. If I could play GT5 on a PC, I would simply get a Blue Ray drive for my PC and play all of it on there. But I also wont buy an XBOX360. I have no need for it. The great thing (and bad thing) about the 360 is that most of the games that are out for it that I'd want to play are out for the PC too. I play my FPS games on the PC. It is a far superior platform for FPS games. So, I have no reason to buy a 360...as HDDVD is dead. If I buy an entertainment machine of any kind, I look for bang for the buck. If I didn't have a PC at all in my home, and I wanted video games, I'd get a 360...it has more games that are rated very well. Plain and simple. Yes, it doesn't have blueray, yeah, I can't play GT5 when that comes out...but there is alot of games currently out that are fun to play...lots of them.
Gotcha--I wasn't sure what you meant by replacing. I thought you meant buying a new one when the next gen consoles come out--didn't even think about sending them in when they break.
This is a car forum, so I'm not gonna expect people here to want the PS3 for anything but GT5 and BRD, and that's perfectly fine, I'll be buying that too. But saying the reason why you wouldn't buy a PS3 is because it has no games has absolutely no merit, especially now. No, I am not gonna list them again. If you want to look at bang for the buck, look at what the 360 gives you now and in the near future vs what the PS3 gives you now and in the near future for your buck. Contrary to popular belief, both give you lots of good games, it just depends on what kinds of games you're in to. I tend to prefer the variation on the PS3 to the shooter heavy 360. -Online You have to pay to get XboxLIVE to play online, there is no other alternative. It is subscription based. The NXE has just released recently and with LIVE Store, MS is finally catching up to Sony's PSN Store. PS3 online play is free. For any game, free. At the moment, it's not quite as robust as XboxLIVE, but it's certainly not bad - it works well and it's free. PSN Store sells movies/games/demos/etc. for instant download and play. -Storage Cheapest 360 comes with no hard drive. Devs up til now have to code for the lowest common denominator, so even though some 360s have hard drives, they cannot require them for games. NXE comes with an option to install most games on your 360 hard drive now however. 100 bucks gets you a 60GB 360 hard drive - holy **** price. Cheapest PS3 comes with a 20GB hard drive. Devs can optimize for a hard drive from the get go which = games load faster (usually). You can replace that hard drive simply with any PC/Laptop 2.5" hard drive off Newegg. Latest search there reveals a samsung 500GB drive for 100 bucks - HUGE DIFFERENCE. If you have lots of media like divx/xvid videos and you want to use the console as a media center, the PS3 is the clear winner. -Reliability This is not even a comparison. Red Ring of Death anyone?
LOL, man, nothing makes me chuckle harder than stirred up console fanboys. Hahaha, oh man...MORE! MOOOORRREEE!!!! XBOX360 is a better console, plain and simple.
Fanboys? You must speak of yourself. You admit you don't have either one, yet you spout "XBOX360 is a better console, plain and simple" like it's your motto or something. If you're simply trolling, you fail as well. I have both. My views are objective. I use simple facts to back up my claims. I guess it's stupid to actually have discussion on a forum once in a while, huh? Would I be cooler if I post in one-liners and put up some shopped pic featuring the latest meme from the internets?
LOL, you should come by work some time, I'll show the piles of busted PS3s, X360s, PSPs and Wiis. They all have around the same failure ratio.
This is lol and lol and lol I prefer Playstation. Always have. I'm waiting for FF13 to buy one. Hopefully the console will drop in price by then. GT5 will still be very tempting before tho. haha I just really don't like any of the games for either at the moment.
Cubby, >< Even if you aren't a fanboy reading through your posts sure as hell make you sound like one.
