The Wagacy of Doom is turning blue! ($100 paint job) Update! 9/16

well as i have said to some, i was guna give the "50 dollar paint job" a shot with my wagon. i went with interlux brightside topside paint in saphire blue. Sprayed on with a HVLP gun and a little 2hp compressor. been doing a lot of body work to get to the painting stage, but the blue is starting the get sprayed on now. its lookin pretty kick ass, so i cant wait to get it finished, also just put my first coat on my bumper and drivers fender yesterday but no pics. im still yet to sand or polish anything yet, but really happy with the amount of orange peel in most places already. full progress can be seen in my album here..

That looks great, it's going to be a unique looking wagon when it's done. The rust repair looks like a lot of work. You might only have $100 of material, but that a lot more than $100 worth of labor going into that job.

    looks like sapphire blue ;)

looks good... did a few jobs like that back in australia in a garage and a electric sprayer... even with the orange peel, you can always sand or spray some straight thinner over it and let it settle and evaporate.... great work

I sprayed my old 300whp talon with a big compressor. Se7enrex and I busted it out in several hours, and it looked GREAT. We did a flat black with a big 5 horse compressor with a dryer (make SURE it has a dryer). The paint held very strong, and I sold it with the paint in the same great condition.

My advice is to buy some good clear coat and hit it with that afterwards. You wont have a hard time doing a nice job as long as you go back and wetsand any areas that dont come out well. Being its a rust repair (and its MN) I would DEFINATELY make sure I got a protective coating down over my base paint.

You should talk to AngusRacer. He went to school for autobody and maybe he's got some pointers or could even help you out with laying down clear.

^ you dont clear single stange paint, or atleast its not nessicary.... all rust spots were hit with rust reformer and and a coat of rustuolem before fiberglassing.

Right, but why would you put fiberglass on it? i would have welded new metal in there THEN grinded, then bondoed

^ cause its a winter beater, that takes even more time, i dont own a welder and cant weld for beans. and the last thing im guna do is pay somebody to do it. defeats the point of a 100 dollar paint job....

I just remembered that that thing is a BK body code. You HAVE to get a "BK Lounge" banner on the back window, and Wagacy of Doom on the front. Of, and we are going to have to self tint that thing too.
