My Hankooks just showed up on the door step while I was out picking up new rear struts. Too bad I have to wait a little while to put these on.

Stock 17x8. They are right in the middle for that rim. Rim min max is 7.5-9 according to http://www.edgeracing.com where I got them.

    Nice.
245/40's not in stock? Or did you want the taller sidewall/radius?

After talking with a few people it was suggested with the STI gearing and auto-x to go with a little taller tire. Midway is good with the tire I was running but the other courses I guess are longer and do better with a little taller tire. I thought about the 40's but that would have made the tire even shorter than stock.

If you want all around dry grip get the Falkens 615 but I wanted a little more tread pattern being I will be driving daily from Buffalo to Burnsville starting the 23rd. These should be better than the Falkens in the rain. I will let you know once I get a change to drive them a bit. Yea to my door $501.32. That seems like a good price for a tire that is classified as Max Perf.

A little but after checking with GPS and OBD2 I have learned that my speedo gauge is off by about 3mph so this should actually fix it. OBD and GPS read 3 slower than the needle shows in the car.

Even if it was right we are talking 3MPH at 100MPH off, so not much.

^yeah, these (as well as the 245/40) are very close to the stock 225/45... 0.1" shorter and 0.3 inch taller actually... so I'm sure the difference in gearing and speedo will be slight/manageable.
Midway usually sucks gearing-wise in the 5-speed too ;)

I've had them on for a few days now and I like them. Much more feedback than what I'm used to (which were the RE92's) and while I haven't been able to push it yet, pretty good grip for the most part on the turns I did take.

    Edgeracing FTW!

They should look/perform great for ya. I really want some bigger tire but still have a brand new set of RE070s sitting in the basement. But I gotta ask does anyone REALLY care about rain peformance? If its raining out I cool it a bit and I can't believe a tire so bad I couldn't make it somewhere safely. Sorry if thats a bit off topic. Sweet tires Matt!

I have a set and they are okay for the price, but I actually prefer the F1 GS D3's that I have on my miata.

its a good tire, IMO it is definitely giving up grip and turn in on the azenis and a the advan neovas but it wears better than either and that is worth a lot if you're not regularly competitively racing.

If you want to be competitive, get the Advans or the Azenis. If you arent going for trophies ther are plenty of other good options.

Hence the reason many of us have them for street tires. ;)

Well now that I will be commuting with the rest of you crazy people :) in the cities I care about rain performance. I will be driving from Buffalo to Burnsville eveyday. Yes badbennyb no more spotting me on I-94 heading for St. Cloud. These should last a little longer and I might do some auto-x for fun but if I got serious about auto-x I would get another set of wheels and get the Falkens... and maybe do some real fender rolling and get some 17x9 or something crazy like that.

You'd need race tires anyways, no point in buying another set of wheels for street tires if your car doesnt fit into a street tire class. Its not STU legal (boost control), your car is a pretty good BSP car though, so you will be competing against me =]

If I get R comps next year its gonna be on. I'm just going to move myself up to BSP to get some better competition.

In an aside, going to have a bit more of an upper hand next event, got race gas mapping and my throttle off push issue sorted out.

I think you know all that I have done to this car. I do need someone to class my car for sure.

So how does the new map feel? Did you dyno for that or just street tune?

I got a couple of PDX tuning maps, 91 octane street map and 110 octane race gas.

Oh holy hell your car is gonna rip!
Aren't you already beating 265/275 wide r-comp bsp guys on 225 sti street tires? As if that's not demoralizing enough for them lol.
Not to hijack but what's the boost on the 110 map looking like?

I've been running them since the beginning of summer last year. They're one of the better street tires I've run, and the price/perfomance factor is very, very hard to beat, especially with the rain capability.

I want to hear how they work in the rain for you. rain performance is real important to me. also I am kinda curious how well they will handle a little bit of gravel/dirt...

I am looking to pretty much to scare them in BSP this year, then get race tires and move in next year =]

I added up points and if I was in BSP I'd be in 2nd place right now. Behind the bimmer with the R comps, but not by much. And I'm using by far the narrowest tires out of any of these guys, I 'm only using a 7 inch wide wheel, off the shelf cobb map and "street" springs, no inlet or intake, stock IC.

Havent seen the race gas map yet, they should be arriving today. I just filled up with 93 oct yesterday so its going to be a while before I can use the race gas map anyways. I was waiting for the next mowog, but its on my wedding anniversary and we are still up in the air about plans for then.

    BACK ON TOPIC

most higher performance street tires arent any good on dirt or rain. Its just comparing mutually exclusive features, the compounds that work well in warm dry temps dont work well in wet colder ones, tread patterns with lots of void area will handle water better but put less rubber to the road.

In my experience, on my car, they feel much better in the rain than the stockers. Also, for what its worth, I was ~1.5 slower in standing water/moderate rain compared to dry at the first novice school this year (~30 second course). I was running pretty consistent (consistently bad, but consistent) times all day.
They are a nightmare on gravel/snow/below 45 degrees as expected.
