A guy that has an evo for sale is showing interest in my cobra, and as you may know, I've been looking for something that is more winter and gas friendly. The evo is modded and is tuned to run on E85. We'll see, I could have an evo this time next week, I'm meeting him sunday to do some test drives and whatnot.
its an '03 in apex silver. the car has only 22K on the clock and the guy put in an Evo IX turbo, full exhaust, 272 cams and 1000cc injectors for the E85. It dynoed 380 WHP.
Fo sho I'll give you a ride. I may come down. Don't have any other plans as of right now. I've driven by there multiple times this summer and the lot is always empty. WTF?
God I love evos. If I wasn't such a wagon nerd, I'd totally have an Evo IX right now. 380whp on a basic stage 2 + cams setup = :eek4: If that car was an actual IX it would have probably made even more power due to the variable cam phasing. Sweet!
if I do get it, I definately want to have as much power as the cobra does. I'm thinking of leaving it at the "tame" 380 WHP over winter then opt for some AMS goodies and big turbo next season to give t3h STi's a run for their moneys  .
If looking for local first hand input on Evos ask around on www.evomn.net This cars owner is probably a member as well. You can find me there as stiguy.
Well, i met the guy and we went and test drove each other's vehicles last night. First impressions were good. The handling feels SO good compared to the Cobra. I've been drving 2 american boats for a year and forgot what a good suspension felt like. It was like driving on rails compared to the cobra. I didn't try to beat on it, but he took the seat and showed me what it could do around a corner and was really impressed. The power delivery was somewhat touchy. It felt like if you touched the throttle at all the turbo wanted to boost which was kind of annoying when trying to drive civily. And with the car tuned on E85, getting the car to boost 27 lbs came real fast. It was sweet watching the boost gauge nearly bottom out at the 30PSI mark. Overall, the car has everything I want. He has a yakima roof rack which is ghey IMO, but he said he has the 3M clear bra under it so when he takes it off it shouldn't damage anything. He also de-winged it and debadged it. I didn't like that since now it looks like a regular Lancer and from the rear looks pretty cheap and ricey with the altezza's minus the badges. The only other forseeable problem is finding an E85 station. I have no clue where any are and could see that as a potential problem in the future if running low on gas and can't find a station. We talked about it and we both had our poker faces on and neither committed to making an offer. He said he researched the prices and he wants to trade straight up since KBB and Nada have them at the same price of $24K. This makes me think he wants my car more than I wants his. The other thing is that the Cobra will most likely hold its value better than the evo. in 3 years, the evo will be probably worth $12K, where the cobra, if taken care of, won't depreciate that much. He claimed time and time again he is easy on the car and has never floored it in 1st gear nor let the car go past 6200 rpm. It showed, he was quite nervous when i test drove and didn't want me to even boost it when the oil temp wasn't past the 160 mark. When the car did boost even the slightest he sounded preturbed and stated it shouldn't be boosted yet. He had a buddy with as well who says the guy drives like a grandma. We both left thinking about it and neither wants to part with their car. We both said we'll get in touch in a few days and maybe work something out.
crank walk...keep your cobra, you'll kick yourself if you dont. just buy a POS winter car and tint the windows if you think any of your gay buddies will see you in it
...and who builds an Evo like that and never floors it? I call :bs:. If you want something that handles better, sell the cobra and buy something stock and mod if how you like.
or sounds like he is driving around a crappy tune. If i was well tuned wailing on it wouldn't cause boost related problems.
I haven'e heard of any Evo's Crankwalking. I had a '95 GSX and know those do quite a bit. My beater is "beat". Its dumping oil and tranny fluid on the ground, has some nasty electric draw that kills batteries left and right, I've put 3 new batteries in the last 4 months (luckily they've been warranteed ), the HVAC system is fubar and doesn't blow anywhere even when the fan is blowing on high, the radio/CD doesn't work, Fuel pump is on its way out, steering pump/rack is shot. I've been trying to sell it since may and no one wants it, even at the lowest price out there. he didn't want it boosting when the oil wasn't up to temp. Ron at RS tuned it. If I got it, I'd get it retuned at DB and maybe add another goodie or two .
i did. Most threads say that shops incorrectly diagnosed the problem to crankwalk. also, I read many places that a lot of problems have been changed since the DSM crankwalking days.
is he another "joe gengsta". Nah, this guy is beleivable and trust him. He's older and owns a few cars. Itd be an even trade anyways, if his car is beat, he's getting a car that's through just as much as his...
Pretty sure this car is on eBay now but since talking with you his car lost 10 whp and went down in value by $2,000. Maybe you can save a few bucks.
yep, its on there. Can't beleive he's sunk to selling on ebay. I wonder why he'd trying to get rid of it so badly... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003...ryZ43919QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I had two recent sightings of your car^^...one it was parked on the side of Bunker Lake Road...tuesday nite? I slowed down to see if I could help but no one in car. And than later at Target same nite...girl leaving Target got into car. Your car, lowered, is simply amazing looking.
yeah, my parents live in that neighborhood and I was just leaving to realize my car was overheating so I walked home to grab a gallon jug of water and fill her up. Somehow the block was completely dry, had to put 2.5 gallons of water in to top it off :eek3:. Thanks for the compliment!!!
It did, Then I had it fixed at DB. It drove fine for 2 weeks, then looked down at my temp and it was pegged the other day. I walked home and got back, pulled the crossover plug out and the car was able to have 2.5 gallons of liquid poured in, meaning it was pretty much empty. I was thinking maybe it wasn't filled properly and the little amount that may have been in there was fine for 2 weeks then dissipated tothe degass/overflow tank which was still full even though the engine was empty.
i'll be keeping an eye on it. checking fluid daily and crossing fingers that it was a fluke. I haven't been driving it since I'd rather put the miles on my winter beater than on the slowbra.
