Day 1: Pulled over for tint in the morning in Edina. Received a ticket on the first stop...what gives. No fix-it. Day 2: Pulled over at 1 in the morning the friday before New Years for tint again. Guy was being a complete jerk about it and said he could give me another ticket because I hadn't removed my tint yet (mind you, it was just the day before that I was pulled over). Oh, and same city (Edina). Biggest jerk I've ever encountered in a uniform. Day 3: Pulled over at 3am for exhaust...but I think he was just looking for drunk drivers given it was the Saturday before New Years...and wasn't one of those. This cop was nice and let me go without much discussion. I've always told people my car is a cop magnet, but for over 18 months with it, I hadn't been pulled over for anything. Now, it's hard to go anywhere without being pulled over. What gives? I understand the drinking and driving thing over the New Years weekend, but come on...give me a break. Oh, after the 2nd encounter I did peel the tint off. Unfortunately the windows are still a bit sticky... Lessons here: -don't bring your illegally tinted car to Edina -tint looks a lot better than no tint......but causes too many problems -don't drink and drive...nothing good can come of it End rant!
good advice...i hate edina police but damn......i was plannin on getting just plowed right now with the leftover hypnotiq in my freezer(party freebooze ftw) and going speedracer on st. Paul
umm...that reminds me. I was coming on 94E from 252, saw a very nice yellow Mazda RX-8 w/bodykit got pulled over. Probably dudes testing his speed...If I got my BOV installed I'll go psssss by him...
the guy before me put 20% on the car...so, yes, it's illegal. Just funny that no one cared for 18 months. Oh, and it doesn't help that it's an STi.
Now that's not very nice to say... My dad was a cop (long since retired), and in his last 2 years of service he issued about 4 tickets. And it was only really when they deserved it by being asshats right away. Or so he says.
lol being a cop makes that person a prick. There are many ways to become a prick, and being a police officer is a great way to start imo... =)
Maybe that attitude is why all of them treat you poorly? Also, does anyone know what legal tint level is in MN? Is it 50%?
Well I wish I could have met your dad when he was a cop, then I'd have something nice to say about them
I'm not going to lie, he was a pushover. During some ridealongs I did I was trying to tell him to write tickets for stuff. And before you jump on my case, we're talking a guy speeding with no license while the car owner is riding shotgun without insurance on the car and a missing front plate. My old man gives them a verbal and tells them to slow down.
I then take back my previous remark, not all cops are pricks. Its really upsetting when there are much more illegal vehicles out on the road, and they target tinted vehicles, or loud exhaust. What about the person with one headlight, bad tabs, no front plate and going 45 in a school zone...nope, they'll pull over a car with a big wing or tinted windows, or loud exhaust before they pull over anything else. sorry, i'm done ranting now. No offence to you or your dad blackozone
It's cool. The whole time you were clear about it just being your opinion. Also, he was a Rochester cop, so you wouldn't have had the "opportunity"(?) to get pulled over by him. Seriously, he was definitely not the law-giver.
can we see some pics of your car please? I want to see what it looks like since i drive through edina alot and just got mine tinted. i posted a few weeks back and we all had a nice chat about this very subject.http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21235&highlight=tint I have heard for years that edina cops are strict. :ugh:
I know several people who have gotten tint tickets in edina. I have also found that cops will bother you for a few months, and then poof it is like everyone fell off the earth and you can do nothing wrong.
haha its even stranger that you don't see those dudes with Harleys with super loud ass exhaust systems getting pulled over, I swear you can hear those things from blocks away. It's apparent that some cops might target tuners but why not bikers?
i work in Edina and thats where I got my first and only ticket a few months back..I have illegal tint but I got caught for speeding at 445am going to work..thank god he didn't get me for my tint..
This thread jinxed me. I just got pulled over on my way into town. 80 in a 55, wrote up for 64 in a 55. All because I still have a city address.
this thread jinxed me too, going to office max and got pulled over for 'running a red light' thing is, i wasn't moving....i guess getting stuck in an intersection when the light changes is all you need. live and learn i guess
true! my avatar used to be cookie monster on the toilet trying to bake a cookie with a spoon and lighter my fav episode.
lol dood wtf... thats gotta be a record. Kinda like when u ran that light in my neck of the woods. :yumyum:
I got pulled over this evening when returning back to work from lunch. Said I didn't stop when I pulled out of my apt's parking lot (dead side street, but yeah, I should have stopped). After running my lic, he let me off with a verbal warning, and Said: "I've seen you around town, not necessarily breaking the law, but taking corners too fast, and things like that, and people are getting upset" I'm thinking, if I wasn't breaking the law, shut the f*[k up serpico... Taking corners too fast???I wasn't over the speed limit
20% tint on an STI is a great way to meet your local PD /Also don't drive with tint in coon rapids, there's a certain cop who pulls over everyone //Actually, I'd just avoid all the suburbs, suburb cops ahve nothing better to do Go read statute listed on the ticket. Thats exactly the type of ticket where there's some type of loophole. Oh and 2 people with very similar avitar is confusing. If that was in MN, thats a warning that next time they'll give you a careless. The standard for careless is just so low, they can give it for anything (they won't win for everything, but you'll lose two days, one for arriagnment, one for trial). Three reasons (in order): 1. Cops own them/think they're "cool" 2. Those "bad ass" bikers often do the cop's taxes and fix thier teeth 3. Some cops think they come that way from the factory (only half-true, some are OEM "off-highway" kits and that wouldn't change legality anyhow. 4. Some cops are just ignorant of the law (gasp, I know)
Me too. Two tickets in two weeks. :emo: One speeding, which was understandable. 72 in a 55 on northbound 169 in Brooklyn Park (heading to Church car care...going to do a good deed) another last night IN MY DRIVEWAY!!!!!:eek3::eek3::eek3::eek3: Eden Prairie undercover officer wanted to chat about my tint. Argghhhhh. Got a fix it ticket.
In your driveway? Over tint? Undercover?? I can't get my mind around that. Don't they have...CRIMINALS to deal with? People breaking laws that actually hurt someone else? Seems like a lot of misplaced effort and money. Drug dealers, domestic assault? Naw, tint tickets.
