Well, I spent the day driving around to a few body shops to get estimates on what the car would cost to get painted. The good places were looking about $3000 or so for the whole deal.

So for giggles, I decided to check and see what Maaco would want for their highest end paint job. Normally, I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. But it can't hurt to see.

Well, as I'm pulling into the driveway, a car is backing out of a bay. I stopped, and it kept backing up. I honked three times, and the car kept backing up (this all happened quite fast as it wasn't very far from him to me). The car hit my SVX in the front passenger corner. It bent in the quarter panel pretty badly (but this was the worst one on the car anyway) and broke the corner light, and scratched the bumper skin.

The guy who steps out of the car turned out to be the owner of the branch[IMG], and we were able to reach an agreement, since he seemed very anxious to keep this off his business insurance. I can get the parts myself, or pay him to order them/install them, and he'll paint the whole car for free[IMG] . It will be their highest end (term used loosley with Maaco) paint job, the multi-stage with clear coat.

This has to be the strangest bad, yet good luck I've ever had[IMG] [IMG]

I'm sure it's not going to be the best paint job ever, but heck, spray paint would look better than it does right now.

Yeah, I'm not expecting it to be very good at all. But it can't be worse than it is right now.

    Here are your before pics.....

Why did he offer to paint the whole thing when he could have replaced and painted the damaged area? Either way, nice deal for you!

I'd be willing to spray my own if I only had a paint booth and the stuff to do it. DIY=the uber cheap!

their paintjobs wont be bad IF the vehicle has been prepped properly beforehand.. laying paint isnt rocket science unless you wanna get into HOK and candy paint etc...

I can see now... I line up of primered cars just waiting outside for the owner to be backing a car out of the bays...

just as well you didnt have the Hellas installed on the SVX... ha hah a

It's got some work that'll need to be finished before it can be sent in to be painted. So that's my weekend I guess.

I'll be taking car of my body work with two buddies of mine who are body techs. Its gonna be roughly $800 for material, possibly more. Proper automotive base, clear, reducer, activator, filler, etc is not cheap. Thank goodness I won't have to jam it :eek3:

That IS strange luck. Hopefully the owner is honest and keeps his word. If it's staying there overnight, make sure they have cameras or other security so your car won't get broken into while it is at the shop.

What color will it be? Tell them you want it to have [Silver Surfer] paint. Mad Bling-YO!

Got the car back from paint tonight. It's definetly not perfect. But it is pretty decent. I opted not to have them fill and block sand the hood, event though it needs it. It's going to be cheaper to replace the hood than they wanted to block sand it all. So that's why you'll see waves in the hood in the pictures. They flash seems to have made them look much much worse than they do in person. You really have to catch it in just the right light for them to show up.

It's surely a Maaco paint job. But it looks tons better than it used to. It was in the garage for pictures, and it was getting dark out so the color isn't really well represented either. I put the rear tail lights all back in tonight, and hopefully I'll have the rest of it put back together in the next week or two.

Next thing, get rid of those white wheels.

very nice color choice though. I actually like the white wheels with that color though, refinish them with a nice flat white and it'd look sharp.

Looks hawt. Again, nice choice in color. It complements the factory tails.

In my book, if it looks the same color all around, you have something going for you

Yeah yeah. It's a total mess. Once this car gets put back together, the garage is next on the hit list. I've just been so darn busy with the new job and whatnot.

Wow, not too bad at all. I'm with the previous statement about protecting that paint, invest the cash into some 3M paint protection...

Congrats on the almost free paint job.

As others have stated, get some paint protection on there as soon as possible.

My friend got the top-end Maaco paint job on his G20. Within 3 months it was peeling along the front bumper. Now, I cannot say for certain that Maaco prepped the car properly, but regardless 3 months later peeling paint.

However, it was almost free, and it definitely looks better than when you started.
