Well, I've been around this forum for a little while now, but I haven't gotten around to making an actual introduction thread. I've started a couple threads and whatnot, but this will be my official introduction thread. btw, sorry if I wasn't supposed to make one of these, I didn't see too many other intro threads.

Hi I'm Brian. I'm 21 and I recently sold my 98 eclipse gsx and purchased my Suby 2.5RS. I've owned this car for less than a month and it's already been somewhat of an adventure. At first I didn't know the significance of the "unicorn," but I was quickly informed of this from other suby guys. To be honest, idk if I'm a fan of the color really, oh well $4200 seemed like a good deal. After I picked the car up I drove about 40 miles and decided to go slide around a snowy parking lot while I waited for my buddy to meet up with me. I wasn't going crazy by any means, but somehow i managed to kill my car :( . Well, I was super ticked when the car died since I just sold my dsm for something I thought was gunna be reliable. The next day I had the car towed to a shop to get it checked out.
The guy at the shop said he thought it was the timing belt and quoted me $1200 to fix that along with the pullies. I gladly declined his offer to fix the car and called up the guy who sold it to me. Luckily, the guy is a Suby mechanic and we agreed that he would fix the car at the price of parts (which is 10% over cost :) ). Well 2 weeks later he had the car done (he could only work on it after hours which was why it took longer than expected). Turns out my idle pully managed to lock up causing my timing belt to skip a few teath which resulted in 4 bent valves. Well my total price came to a whopping $480 for both head gaskets replaced, timing belt, new plugs, more gaskets replaced, and all the fluids changed. I got a steal I know! I threw the guy $600 for everything and drove the car back to school. I've finally got around to snapin a few quick pics so here they are.

The car is bone stock right now, and I plan to leave it that way until this motor goes. Like most of you guys, I plan to swap it once I'm outa school and have a more steady income. I've already purchased a scangauge II and a set of 500 Hellas that will be goin in soon. My plans for this car are still sorta up in the air. I'll more than likely hit up the suspension mods and get that done while I "wait" for this motor to go.

Anyways, I look forward to continuing to meet more of you guys!
    -Brian

Sucks that the t-belt slipped, but you are SO lucky that the only damage was the valves!
I've been trying to convince my cousin to drop his gsx and pick up a wrx/rs for awhile now.

    Welcome to the boards!

    Thanks guys!

^Yea my gsx was way quicker than this car will probably ever be, but this car definitely handles a lot better that's for sure.

Was it auto or manual? I could keep up with my cousin's auto until about 35mph, while my rs was N/A.

158k on the motor. What color is your suby? I'm a huge black or white fan. Blue is hot too. Dang, imo green is the hardest to scheme up color-wise.

in a 2.5rs with gold wheels then yea it is there was only 400 or 2000 or something like that ever made.

my car, on the other hand is a spruce green pearl 98 legacy gt. that is the most common color. i think there are at least 5 bd gt's on mnsubaru with that color green alone.

i think yours is spruce green pearl too. is your color code 433? or something like that

Yea I know they didn't make very many green/gold 2.5rs's at all, but that doesn't mean I've gotta be a fan of the color haha. I like the rarity and I'm sure it'll grow on me. I'm not sure what the color code is for sure.

if youre ever under your hood let me know, im kinda interested its a sliver vin plate on your driverside strut tower, it has everything from your chassis code, color code, vin# and a bunch of other stuff.

yea there is a lot of people that like the color, but idk if i do as well. i would rather have red or white if i had to change colors of my car

however, it does look good under low sun, at dusk and when its freshly washed you can see the dark green sparkles.

and in the summer too underneath the sun by a big green tree

Indeed, legacies and imprezas never were called the same color, even if they were the same color. @ least not during that era.

Wow, very nice guy! Consider yourself lucky.

Look into some chassis bracing. The only major fault of the older chassis versus the newer type is stiffness. The old ones had a bit more flex in them. Look into fender cowl braces and a rear strut tower brace as some early mods. Don't worry about them until you put some sticky tires and/or stiffer suspension on the car though. It won't be till then when you start putting some stronger forces through the chassis to really notice it.

    Have fun.

fancy, another RS! Oh of you take care of the motor, you will never have to swap it. Look to spend at least $5k on a swap. Get a USDM swap or JDM V8+ if you want to be able to tune it well and have more tuning options. Leave the old skool stuff alone. Move onto newer technology and spend less $$$$.

with what fuji said, you can go an older swap and have less issues and things to work around when you swap it all in.

    eitherway, welcome

Thanks for the heads up. I don't plan on doing the swap for a couple year at least. I'd rather wait till I'm outa school and have a little higher steady income. I'll more than likely buy a wrecked sti so I've got everything I need.

Sweet thanks for the offer! I'm not really thinkin about doin much if anything to this motor. I'm a pretty strong believer that na motors are not meant to be turboed unless completely built up, and I don't see much potential in making an na motor fast w/o a turbo. With that said, I'm thinkin sti swap when I get outa school and have a little more steady income. Now suspension on the other hand, that I can do now :)

I'm going to be throwing in a new clutch
    http://www.clutchcityonline.com/products/15-010.shtml
sometime soon, so maybe I could get a hand??? :)

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes guys/girls!

Smart man, you are one step ahead of half the guys in Fargo! I can usually give a hand, also have quite a few tools and a shop after hours to work in. The n/a 2.5 is really easy for pulling to a do a clutch also, also have the hook ups for getting a flywheel resurfaced pretty quick as well.

Awesome! At first I didn't have much hope in finding anybody knowledgeable or kind enough to offer to help install a clutch. So I take it you've done a clutch in a 2.5RS before? What shop do you work for/with?
