It seems like a dumb idea until you start dealing with rolling blackouts and such. It really sucked a few years ago during the daily rolling blackouts. While the car paint thing is absurd , they do need to figure out ways to conserve power grid energy out there, this doesn't seem like much but it does add up. Plus by the time the ban is in place TV tech will have come up with a solution.
