Ok so im looking at a 2007 WRX TR at Walser In Burnsville. the car has 47, 444 miles on it and they are asking just under 19, 000. it does have: turbo upgrade bigger exhaust Suspension work done they think its been chipped, I think tunned. Any way I am wondering what else i should look for? the first 20,000 miles were in SD and then traded in there and the dealer then few days later put it up for auction and its been in MN sicnce then. I now the KBB values a car with that many miles for just under 17,000. ANYT information would be great. I am looking to spend no more the 20,000 on a car, low miles 2006-2007 WRX Sedan or wagon, perfer sedan. silver, white, blk, WR blue. thanks My 2000 2.5rs is for sale. or i will trade it in fore new toy.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1880696 this is what im looking for.... how does this one look? Im new to this so bear with me for my dumb ?s....
compression check, find out what turbo (and supporting mods), have someone read the rom for you to check to see if it has been tuned. Price is high. New 06-07 wrx tr's were going for 21-23k to well informed buyers.
Modded cars generally command no price premium and even trade below book from dealers. The exception is when the mods are well documented, which most dealers won't provide to protect the privacy of a car's previous owner. Ever notice how used cars from dealers never come with any documentation from previous owners? If the mods may be of value to you, and no documentation is provided, unless you personally can discern what the mods are and the mechanical condition of the car, I would pay for an independent inspection by RSmotors or MAP so that you know exactly what you're buying and whether they were properly done. I would not buy a car with mods which have been improperly done, unless the price was very low. To get a good gauge on what real market prices are (not "book" prices), I use Ebay, Autotrader.com, Cars.com, Carsoup.com and nationwide searches of Craigslist using www.crazedlist.org. I just finished doing this hunting for an Outback XT MT and ended up buying a clean southern car with 25K fewer miles for $2000 under what I could locally find. Shipping the car from TN was $500 and a local pre-purchase inspection cost me $100. If something shows up in a distant market which looks good, you can find good independent shops to do an inspection by searching NASIOC. Hope this helps. Ray
AS of now the one at Walser is the one im considering. there is one that i found at Exectutive Automotive out in Woodbury. also with mods. erg. fopund a couple on NASIOC. Keep the info coming. Thanks
First you have to ask Walser whether they'll agree to take the car to an independent shop for a pre-purchase inspection. If they'll agree to this, then you call the shop of your choice, tell them what you want and any particular stuff you want to find out and ask them what they'll charge for the inspection and when the car can be brought in. Once that's all set up you call the dealer and tell them when they have to have the car at the shop of your choosing. An inspection typically takes an hour and gets charged as an hour of shop time. Any seller who will not agree to an independent inspection at your cost by a mechanic of your choosing, should not be trusted.
Price is quite high, but what you want to pay is your business. As for mechanics, I'd do the following: -Read the ECU to take a look at the map, and for sure take a look at the ECU learning values (either RS or MAP could do this for you, if they're willing). If it does have an access-port, ensure that they have that physical unit. -Get a compression check. -Physically inspect the mods. I'd primarily be concerned about which turbo the car has, and the quality of the mods. Quality mod parts and installs typically indicate a quality previous owner, the opposite can be said for cheap parts/poor installs.
And if it hasn't been tuned the modifications were done improperly and you should stay away from the car. Reading the ROM should give some indication of how aggressively the car was tuned. If it was very aggressively tuned, I'd stay away. BTW is this was tuned using a Cobb Accessport, the car should come with AP. The tune is basically worthless if you ever want a new tune if the AP doesn't come with the car. Ray
I am planning an heading back down there on tuesday or wednesday with my boss from work. should i head down tomorrow and look at this stuff? should i ask if they can get me the mods list> name of the mods on the car? and go from there?
I picked up my 05 STI with 53000 for a hair over what that car is priced at. It sounds over priced to me!
Dealerships will always have higher prices than private sellers! I would therefore search around private sellers and prolly get an STi for that price or lower. I almost was conviced to buy a used 07 STi from a dealership for 23grand because it was the only STi around at that time in all Subaru dealerships in MN. Thus they price their cars knowing that they have no competition and that someone desperate will buy it at that price.
I was in the same boat, I couldn't find an STI with in 300 miles of here. I had a deal on a 07 OBP STI, and then the car I bought popped up on Craigs list. It's hard to wait and search, it took me 6 months to find the right car.
If you're shopping over $15k, I don't know why you just don't step up to an STI? The price difference seems like it would be very minimal.
Coming from someone that just went down this road. I checked out every STI that was for sale in this great country. You would be hard pressed to get a STI without a salvage title for 15K. Bottom base prise for a STI, from what I saw, Is around 18K and up. The thing that sold me on the car that I purchased was that it was stock, and it was owned by a older guy that just drove it in the summer. Mint car.
yea i found a few on line. like two on ebay. and one on NASIOC. If I find one in the Nashville Area i could pick up in Dec.. but tech. i would like it in the area......shibbs lets talk....
Gl will! I work right across the highway from the subaru dealer. You should swing in if you decide to stop there. Drop me a line! My phone number is still the same if you still have it.
I'd go with Shibbs car for sure! Otherwise Wraith's is a good bet too. Buying from someone on here vs. the dealer is probably a wise decision.
Mine is for sale, however its got a little higher miles than you're wanting. I'm just over 50k. They're all highway miles, but still. I'm also still fighting to get the front bumper fixed with Progressive, because their bodyshop they used sucked and didn't put any flex additive. You're welcome to come take a look at it any time you want tho.
Walser 07 WRX. Roon posted the mods. Seems really nice for the price! http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35894
I should mention the installs were done by Scuba Steve and the tune I had on it when I traded it in was done by Bullwinkle. Now when I traded it in the car was "for offroad use only", so I would check the exhaust system and make sure the car was re-tuned if any changes were made to it.
Well, there's the answers Will was looking for. Roon, damn, sad to see you let that thing go. When I tuned it, it had an 18g, exhaust, BCS, intake, and injectors. From what I remember, the tune went flawlessly and the car looked to be in great condition (and I wanted Roon's wheels at the time ). Here's the road dyno from the tuning session. PS: Price is still high
Yea, it wasn't really that easy to let it go, but I was finding that I was spending more money on mods and things like that then I could afford to . I know myself and getting rid of it was the only way to stop spending money I shouldn't on a car. So I went DeeGee's route and traded it in on a truck, I can leave it stock its a bit more practical and with my 10 mile round trip commute to work Gas isnt an issue. I will be back though! P.S. - you can buy my wheels! .
If you have any questions about the car, maint....what was done and when please ask. I bought it stock and did all the mods to it and can answer any question you have .
Just my $.02, but Will if you're interested in Roons car you have a great chance to know exactly the good and bad. Because Roon no longer owns it he's not going to hide anything from you about it. Assuming everything checks fine from him, I'd work on price and go with it because you'll know **Exactly** what you're stepping into.
ha ya, real small world. I was gonna say to see if you could contact the person who traded it in (rare), but he just popped up here. good luck with the car tho. Roon, you are probably kicking yourself for not selling it outright for 19,000!
No way I could get 19k for a modded car, private party. No bank would give a loan for that much over BB value. Dealerships can get away with it though.
