Today I drove my car from perham, mn to buffalo, mn. when I was 150-175 miles into the 200 mile trip I started hearing a ticking in all gears at around 2k rpm. the sound is coming from the shift lever on up to the front right of the car. It sounds like a baseball card in a spoke of a bike rime. The noise is not there and I rev the engine to 2k. It is only there when I am moving. can be accelerating, can be decelerating. 02 wrx 5spd stg 2 plus with an 04 tranny with 70k on it. 99.5k on the motor. can anyone help me figure out what it is?
front cv shaft, if it happens all the time(clutch in or out). Just a guess, like AWDimprezaL said "without hearing it myself i dont have any advice, it could be alot of things, including snow"
possibly if it was packed in somewhere... i remember with the RS5 spokes last season it would hop like mad at certain speeds when there was snow in the rim, dont see why this couldn't be any different
I understand snow in the wheel will cause things like that cause of improper balance. I really really really really really really really really hope it is just snow!! pray for my car guys.
truck not so much...others...maybe. lol, have someone else take a quick peak too man before you make any decisions.
I will. I will also see if it goes away as the snow goes away. if nothing else I will be able to thaw it out when we get back home. I can put it in my father in laws heated shop.
no I am not sure. I did not suspect that due to it being at a certain RPM. I will check it out though.
you are speaking my language rich. beth says wait till after that way I there is not chance to smash up the new ride..
couple of days I will be in biwabik... maybe we could meet half way or something??? how far are you from there???
also take a peek in teh wheel well, or open the hood and look everywhere.. see if y ou got something stuck... I have grass and straw all under my car from the field fun...
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=...077744&sspn=0.112389,0.32135&ie=UTF8&z=8&om=1 only about a 5 hour drive.
I will give it a better look over tomorrow when there is not such a wind coming off the lake at my parents house.
I had a chunk of ice rolling between my tire and wheel well for a while that only would make noises at certain RPM's Could be something very similar
I drove up to the Turtle lake area of Wisconsin (where I am from) on Saturday and parked my car untill about 6, when I started it up you could hear the sluchy ice that had accumulated in my engine mounts and drive train, it would vibrate at about 60 and when I stepped on the gas it would make a grining noise when the drivetrain shifted, it eventually came off, but it wasn't pretty in the mean time. Frogy
Yeah Bill just take it a self service car wash and get everything thawed out and clean. then you can inspect everything better
