Hey everybody. It's been a while since I've been on and since I've sold my 2005 Subaru WRX that was modified with STI turbo, full catless exhaust and what not.

It's about time for a new vehicle. I've been looking at Legacy GT's and the Spec B models. Of course I'd be doing a few things to it to make it my own. Is the Spec B worth the extra dough? My budget is anywhere from $22,000-$28,000. If I were to spend $28,000 it would be on a 2009 Spec B. I like the interior, SI drive, and the wheels on the Spec B, I'm just wondering if I were to get a 2009 Legacy GT for around $22,000 if I'd be able to make it comparable to the Spec B with the extra cash or if I should just go with the Spec B.

What does everyone think? Things I'm interested in doing are Wheels, exhaust, tune and maybe brakes.

    Thanks everybody for your comments!

I'd go for an older spec B for the STi 6MT...

I have a 05 lgt with the 5spd. If you are not going past a stage 2 setup go for the gt. You can do alot in mods for another 6k.

Now if you are going past a stage 2 set up sometime in the future get the spec b.

I'm not sure what the plan will be on this one. The older Spec B's have a STI 6 speed?

Yes, that's why I picked one up to replace my 05 LGT. Don't even look at the new 6MT that's standard in almost all models now, I have no idea what that thing is. The Spec B also has LSDs and Bilsteins. Those are really the reasons to get one from a performance aspect. Interiors are comparable when you have a LGT Limited and wheels can always be changed. The biggest thing really is the gearbox, but as was said the 5MT in the LGT is no slouch either and you'll get better gas mileage with it.

And if you're looking for an 05 LGT Limited with only 44k miles on it let me know.

Have the 2010 LGT. The new 6MT is the 5MT with an overdrive gear. It's adequate, but doesn't hold a candle to a STi 6MT. Feels a bit like shifting a light pickup. The only SS option for it is the SPT which rings in at over $400 BEFORE install. :(

Which is the best year for the Spec B then? Did they come with the STi 6mt in 2006-2007 model years only? I like the 2010 LGT too.

All of the Spec B's have the same performance options, the 6MT included. I think the only difference were color and interior options. I think only the 2008 and later had the nav package standard.

I think I'll start going on some test drives this weekend get the feel of the LGT and Spec B unless it snows (which might still be fun).

Sorry guys for the double post, but how are your insurance costs on your Legacy GTs? I'm just inquiring because I don't have the best driving record and my guess would be I'll be paying around $260 a month full coverage.

Geez.... That's a car payment alone. I have an 08 WRX. Costs me about $60/month to insure.

2007-2009 spec b do have a strong 6 speed transmission. Very similar to the STI, without the dccd and is open front lsd. Also, the 1-4th gear are the same as the 2007+ sti, but 5th and 6th are much longer than the 2007+sti. The gear ratios are a perfect match for the 2.5 if you were to ask me.

The new 2010 6spd...not so sure about those.

I have two of them right now, with only one driver listed, and they cost me $85/month total (not each) through AAA.

Thanks for the info guys. My 2005 WRX with no marks on my record was $190 a month for full coverage. Now I have a mark (or two) so that's just an estimate. Being 21 and owning a WRX is like the insurance company stealing candy from a baby.

What is your deductible though? If your sitting at $500 for both collision and liability, bump it up to $1000 if you feel comfortable enough with your driving or your daily driving routine. I went from $120/month down to $85. Granted I don't have a WRX, it still makes a large difference. Especially if money is tight.

Progressive has low rates, you ever think of doing the SnapShot thing they have? I'm considering it come spring time when the roads are gonna stay clear.

That's the same thing i'm thinking. Which is why I said i'll wait until spring. I can't control the weather but I can control my driving. Save up to 30%, worth a shot if no loss to me!
