Finally got the windows tinted on the L,35%. Thanks to the guys at Tintmasters, they are a great bunch to work with. I'm a little worried about getting hassled by five-oh now. Any of you guys have a lot of problems with 35% tint and the fuzz?
lighter then mine by the looks of it.. but I think I got the same.. never been hassled.. but I also dont usually drive like a douche then wonder why I get harassed (ie never been harassed)
I've never had a problem with 35% even when pulled over for something else. If you think you're being pulled over open the sunroof it will let a little more light through the windows but seriously you shouldn't worry about it. You will get used to it kinda like putting exhaust on a car it can be a bit scary at first.
I have 35 and i dont get bothered at all... as for 90% isnt that like nothing at all? Or are you talking 10%??? The lower the # the darker the tint... Your tint will look lighter right when you get it done. Let it sit in the sun and the tint will cure and darken up a lil more... Looks great though!!
i think you have it backwards. 50% is legal and 0% is solid. it's measured by the amount of light passes through. i had 20% and got away with it for about 3 months. i plan on re-tinting my front windows to 35% in the spring. the rest are 20% still
as for you having 35%... as long as you're not driving at 2am past a cop with a hard on, you should be fine.
Ill get some pics up and i actually bought the car that way i would never put it on. I just dont want to pay to get it taken off.
Looks nice on the car, I have 20% on all my truck windows and I've never been bothered. Though if you catch the wrong guy on the wrong day you could be in trouble.
Yeah I know somebody who got a ticket a few months ago and they had 35%. They got it right after they got it tinted and that was the reason they got pulled over, not for speeding or any anything else. As for 90% I have never heard of that, does he mean 10% ?
The ticket belongs to me..gotta pay that one of these days. I was told by the shop who installed it that it was 35%, but the fuzz came up with 22% on their cool tint measurer. I got the platinum though and it really doesn't look like 22% at all what so ever. For the record, the tint ticket was $132.00. Looks good hans. I see you decided against the Mercedes blue you were thinking about. I still think the blue would look good on your car. Your new tint doesn't look like 35%
Yeah, doesn't the factory glass have some amount of tint to it? I wonder what their meter would show for untinted factory windows. That might explain why it came up at 22%.
Yeah, I hope it was the right choice. If I get a ticket I will defintely get the blue. I wonder if Mercedes discontinued doing that, I haven't seen any with the blue in a while.
I really don't think you will get messed with. The only reason I got pulled over was because I had no front plate mounted. He told me that was the reason, but when he came up he pointed out a lot...radar in the window and tint. A warning for a radar that was pretty much right under my mirror?? That's why I put it there, so it didn't obscure vision. I think the Mercedes blue tint is a factory option. Not all people like the look. I'm on who does. I just think your car would look sick with that tint since it's more of an upper class car or at least styled like one. I see you debagded too. Looks good. Is the GT coming off too?
it looks like 5%.... i dont know what hes talking about with 90% tint and 10% clear. 90% is just about stock.
my tint was 28% and got a ticket for it in maplewood. He said that 40% plus was legal. I wasnt even being reckless or anything, cop pulled me over because of my tint.
to bad thats not paint its sand..:eek4:.. and if u read my posts u will see that i made a mistake in what i said... and the tint is 10%
I had 20% on my last car and got pulled over 3 times and was given 3 warnings regarding it. I put 30% on this car instead and haven't had an issue yet. Got pulled over for the first time last weekend for a license plate light that was out and he didn't mention the tint at all. Wish I had 20% still though as it was pretty nice on my eyes.
I guess there is a new statue to the tint law.... If the dealership applies your tint and it is darker than 40% and lighter then 30%, there has to be a sticker saying how much light is let threw (tint%) And if you have this sticker you cannot be issued a ticket. Thats what the state patrol d*ck told my buddy when i got pulled over in his car. Wether or not that is true, i have no idea, but i could have swore thats what he said.
I don't know if it's new or not, but if you don't have that sticker your tint can be deemed illegal. Regardless of the percentage.
I was just in court before Thanksgiving for my window tint, believe me, there has not been a change to the law since 1985.
I've been harassed many, many many times, and I don't drive like an idiot. If you have dark ass tint on your car, it attracts attention, weather your obeying the laws or not. sorry for not double quoting, too lazy today =)
I have 15% from the B-pillar back and 50% on the driver and front seat passenger windows. I've only been pulled over 1x and the State Trooper pulled a U-turn on Hwy 10 to do it but only gave me a warning. If you want to keep your dark/illegal tint, do what I did. Call your eye doctor and have him write you a prescription for having light senstive eyes, heck with all the snow glare its not a lie. Keep it in the glove box and show it to the police if they pull you over. Problem solved. Enjoy, Amy
169.71, Minnesota Statutes 2006 169.71 WINDSHIELD. Subdivision 1.(a) A person shall not drive or operate any motor vehicle with: (3) when any side window or rear window is composed of or treated with any material so as to obstruct or substantially reduce the driver's clear view through the window or has a light transmittance of less than 50 percent plus or minus three percent in the visible light range or a luminous reflectance of more than 20 percent plus or minus three percent; (b) This subdivision does not apply to glazing materials which: (2) are required to satisfy prescription or medical needs of the driver of the vehicle or a passenger if the driver or passenger is in possession of the prescription or a physician's statement of medical need; Yes, its true. While it does seem annoying that the police would pull people over for dark tint, imagine if you were a police officer and you had to approach a vehicle where you couldn't see who or what is in the back seat. Could make for some very scary surprises. The part that always confused me is the tint laws don't apply to vans, SUVs or pick ups. Seems to me you could pack a whole lot more danger to officers in the back of those types of vehicles than an average Subaru. If I were an officer I would really like to be able to see what is going on in the back of a vehicle as I approach from the rear. So don't judge too harshly.
I talked to several shops before tinting and suprisingly they all said the same thing, ANYTHING darker than %50 is illegal-PERIOD. And they also said that yes suv's etc.. don't apply. They don't have issues until you tint them any darker than the way they came from the factory. If you look, most have tint on all the windows except the front 2 and the windshield. I agree with Scandia and I also think that they should be fair and not just pick on people that own cars. (especially subies!) SUV's stink
You mean 10%. I have 15% on my wagon and it's aweXome. I've been pulled over twice and they didn't even mention the windows. HA!
I have 20% on the legacy. I had 20% on my last car too, I got ticketed for it after getting pulled over for no front plate...I love hot it looks though, and it makes driving so much more comfortable, its' worth the risk
