To piggyback off the tint warning thread, does anyone know of any auto tint places that don't charge an arm and a leg?

If not, anyone know where to get materials to remove tint off a car?

If I remember correctly to retint the front rolls at tintmasters its $100, plus however long it takes to take the old tint off.

You can remove the tint by using steel wool, foam glass cleaner and a razor blade.

Uhhhh, steel wool?? Try a finger nail or razor to get one of the edges... Peal it off. Then get some Adhesive remover and use that razor again. Just took off my buddies 1% on his trailblzer yesterday took about 30 minutes, which was mostly the Adhesive removal, taking the tint itself off takes 5 seconds.

he did my 02 WRX, I would recommend having tintmasters in burnsville do it. This is coming from a guy who graduated at the same high school as him. Good guy, does a good job when he wants to, just does it to fast most the time so the end result is not what it could are should be.

He will be the best price most likely though. but you get what you pay for.

I'll try the removal using some supplies I can at home.

Such a same to waste such a nice tint over a silly law here in MN.

Heck, get rid of the tint law and the front license plate law and I'd be a happy guy. :)

It will be hard to take it off but once you get it off use Go Gone it works and then use a razor blade to take off all of the sticky stuff. How long has the tint be on for?

Next AutoX I'll check it out. I'm wondering if even going with 50% is worth it, especially since I've "been there, done that."

I think it makes a huge difference over having none at all.

+1 for the Sun Control on Rice Street, just north of Hiway 36.

    I would recommend the 35%. 50% is a waste.

ScoobyTodd, sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Here is a web site with info that helped me out. I was surfing for window film that provides extra security from break-ins after a friend of mine was robbed. All tint does this to some degree , but some are better than others.

    Hope this helps you out...http://www.buytint.net/auto_1.html

The absolute best way to remove tint..... Ammonia and water (as much ammonia as you can stand to smell). I tinted windows for many years and it was the best (although stinky) way to remove tint. Catch a corner and peel the film off, what is left will be the adhesive. Spray the water/ammonia mix onto the window, leave it in the sun for 10min and it should come off in a nasty goo. Fortunately, the goo isn't all that sticky so you can clean it up with minimal effort.

This is also why you should never use window cleaner that contains ammonia to clean a tinted window... :)

FYI, Sun Control and 3M are good quality tint. They aren't the only ones, but most places around here, other than Ziebart, use one or the other.... Sun Control used to have its production in Rochester, not sure if they still do. If so, that would obviously be the best place to get tint done....
